Poetic justice

And this guy was the face of the Christmas anti-speeding campaign............

Top Victorian traffic cop Ken Lay has been caught speeding .. copping a 245-dollar fine and the loss of three demerit points for travelling 10 kilometres over the speed limit.

The Herald Sun newspaper says the offence occurred when he was caught by a speed camera driving at 80 kilometres an hour in a 70 kilometre speed zone at Tooborac in central Victoria .. on October 1 last year.

Mr Lay says he wasn't concentrating while returning in a work car from talks with police in the NSW border town of Barham .. and made a mistake

Well at least they looked after the poor bloke by waiting until AFTER christmas to leak out the news.

Imagine the cost of replacing his face on all that marketing material! Who would they use instead?

"He discovered he had been penalised three demerit points and received a fine of $245 by the second week of November.
But Mr Lay decided, with Chief Commissioner Simon Overland, to keep the infringement out of the public domain until after the state's drink and drug-driving campaign "Operation RAID" had completed.
"I spoke to the commissioner as soon as I became aware I'd been pinged," Mr Lay said on 3AW radio this morning.
"I recommended to him that I didn't want to be muddying the waters during our high-risk time."

Struth. They actually did it! How fucen cynical is that?

In the article it says that "it could have been WARNING offence, but he elected to accept the fne".

Since when has ANYONE got off on a warning for doing 10k's over?????

Me, heaps of times.

Why are you looking at this as a cover-up, he copped the fine! Imagine the carry-on if it came out he'd been pinged and they covered it up. That could be done easily if he lived in QLD. He went to his boss and told him what has happened and wore it.

Yeah they kept it quiet until after that campaign, do you have any idea at all what those things cost??? Why would you scrap an entire campaign and waste tax payer's money? If that had happened I have no doubt you'd be carrying on about that.
