12000k Service
#1
Hi, I am thinking about doing the 12000k service myself and would welcome any advice from club members.
Looking at the service manual the service look's straight forward, my only concern is, in the book it states you require a special tool to remove the oil filter, is this true?
I would like to run with a semi synthetic oil, so which one do members use?
Any comments are appreciated, regards, Bon.

Special tool = hammer and screwdriver.

You can buy an oil filter remover from bike shops or most auto stores, just make sure you take the filter with you to get the right size

Hi there

You can get the oil filter tool from most places and it is fairly cheap. Mine cost me all of $12 when I got it.

For a semi synthetic, I run Motul 5100 4T Technosynthese. I have had a good run out of it. I have done all my services all the way to 60000km and have used this oil. When they did the service the shop put in silkolene - I dont like it as I have had a few false neutrals between 5th and 6th with it, whereas with the motul I did not.

My motor is "run in" and sounds a lot better than most Hayabusas out there, which are usually zingy.

Bon, I am very glad to see that you have looked at the manual.

For the Gen II bike at least, getting the fairing on and off is the biggest pain of doing the services until you get it down pat.
