Oggy Knobs or similar

I'm guessing there's been previous threads on this but haven't found any.

Anyone fitted this brand or any other on their Busa? Any photos, advice, recommendations and purchase locations would be appreciated.

Mate,

I cant think of the title but do a search on steventh as i did a blow by blow of installing on a Gen 1. the principle is the same for gen 2 though some use the centre fairing bolt to avoid cutting the fairing - though this does not make a very strong option.

Cheers

Thanks. I would prefer an option where you don't have to cut the fairing.

I used Steventh's guide and a laser pointer and am really happy with the fitted result.

You can get no cut sliders for Gen 1 which worked by mounting a rod in the front of the engine that protruded through the upper vent slots on each side. I heard of one instance where this setup created more damage by the rod bending and damaging the engine plus fairings. dont know if similar is avalable for gen2.

The other option is mount sliders on the main fairing bolt. This bolt is only 6mm whereas sliders are usually on 10mm bolts. I would think 6mm will not be strong enough and im not to sure about the wisdom of driling the hole for a 10mm bolt. Busgo has this set-up PM him for his views.

"Standard" slider bolts replace the upper engine mounting bolts so any impact is distributed through the engine mounts and less likely to damage the frame. Fairing type only bolt onto the exterior frame rail. The force of any impact is concentrated on the frame at the bolt so it is possible that even a minor fall will dent your frame - dented frame may mean a Statuatory Writeoff.

In addition the slider will not be clear of the fairing and if it bends it (as it probably will if you keep the 6mm bolt) will damage the fairings anyway.

My gratuitous recommendation is to use the more sturdy standard sliders. I just sold a K7 with standard sliders and having them was not an issue and did not affect resale price.

For complete disclosure - I have considered but at the moment have decided not to use sliders on my gen 2 but this is because i have road fairings. If I only had the one set of fairings I would install sliders.

Hope this helps

By "standard" I take it you are referring to sliders that require the fairing to be cut as I see from the other info that the fairing covers both upper engine mounting bolts.

Yep, by standard I mean the ones that bolt in to the engine mounts and cutting the fairing.

FYI on the gen 1 and probably the Gen 2 the engine mounts are not symmetrical so placement of the sliders are about an inch different. This can not be noticed unless you specifically look for it.
