QBE Current Offer (7/2009)
#1
Hi all

My renewal from QBE arrived this week (premium $709) with a flyer saying "We'll beat any price, Guaranteed".

I went online to Insure My Ride and got a quote for $575. I told QBE and they asked me to get a new quote which included $4000 in Gear Cover so it would be a level playing field. I did this and IMR quoted me $598.

QBE agreed to beat that and changed their premium to $590.

When the new QBE paperwork arrived it had an 8000km per annum restriction. I checked with IMR and they have no kilometre based restrictions so I emailed QBE and pointed this out.

QBE immediately replied saying they would also remove the km restriction and the premium would remain at $590.

So... now is the time to be negotiating a deal if you get an opportunity.

Now, some of you will say "Why not move to IMR?" which is a fair point. My answer is "I've been with QBE for 16 years and I like the way they've treated me during that time".

I've never blindly paid an insurance premium in my life. I always shop around, always bring superior deals to my current insurers attention and always get a reduced premium. I don't think I've ever paid the premium quoted on a renewal... ever. They will negotiate, you just have to put in a little effort.

So, I'm staying with QBE - but based on feedback on this board IMR seem to be doing things right as well... so if QBE ever stop playing ball, I'll certainly give them a go too.

Anyway... this was my latest experience and I thought I'd share it in the hopes it is of some value to other members.

Regards

Rob (Astro)
Oh... couple of other points. (1) The price beating guarantee flyer says "only for existing customers", but the guy I spoke to said anyone can try it as they are on the hunt for new business. (2) If you need it, the free call number for QBE is 1800 24 34 64. (3) If you prefer to deal via email, use "motorcycle.enquiries@qbe.com"

I'd have to also mention that the service from IMR (both on the phone and via email) was fantastic.

Astro I'm with Shannons and my premium for the new K8 is just under $400.00 agreed value and gear, no klm limitations but no daily commuting - give them a call.

you may be loyal to QBE but they obviously are not loyal to you quoting you over $700.00 first up. Loyalty just doesnt pay when you are discussing insurance.

If you've been with QBE for 16 years and they are trying to charge you the premium you mentioned, I'd say that they are not treating you fairly. The best way to treat these companies is to vote with your feet and get insurance from a company who wants your business (I am slightly biased towards IMR because I've been with them a few years now and they always beat everyone on price....and I do shop around alot). I had the same problem with NRMA years ago....I had car, bike, building, contents...the whole box and dice with them and they kept jacking the prices up. I got a cheaper quote elsewhere and informed NRMA (thought I was doing the right thing) and they requoted all the policies to match what I was quoted. But it was too little too late.....if they wanted my business, they should invest in some customer loyalty and quote low to retain my custom. If you are a loyal customer, you shouldn't have to bargain with your existing insurer. ( I thing i got carried away and exceeded my word quota on that dribble)
