1 Point left on licence for 8 months, does anyone own one of these or know if they actually work?
"Ghost Plates Super Protector is designed to defeat photo radar & speed cameras viewing your licence plate from side and overhead angles. Half your number plate will become invisible to cameras from the angles designed into the Super Protector."
Edit: Hmmm...Essentially as above, except on 1 July 2005, the on the spot penalty for Obscured/Obstructed/Defaced/Missing number plate became $338 fine plus 3 Demerit points. (No guilty mind or intent required to be proven). I guess it would need to be measured as to the likliehood of getting a photo fine (speed camera, red light camera, toll way) vs the likliehood of being noticed, pulled over and booked.

Hey Kev, the post title is the web address. Would be worthwhile considering the obscured numberplate provision in your state before buying. Without any empirical evidence, I'd probably think that it was much MORE likely you would get a camera offence than being busted for obscuring your numberplate. Anyone had any experience with this?

Not sure how legal the confiscation was...the relevant legislation lives here
http://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/viewto...008+fn+0+N
I'll check and see if it exists...
Nope...if they were confiscated in NSW I'd suggest the coppers have actually committed an offence. Its all 3 points and $338.

Mythbusters once did a show using a range of number plate obscuring gadgets. None of them worked, even when Mythbusters did everything they could to make them work.
Myth busted!

That would be a bummer, I remember the one they did with radar detectors, didn't see this one, gotta go and try and find that episode now :( This all stems from losing 6 points to a speed camera for doing 65kph in a 60kph zone at 4pm on a weekday Christmas eve last Christmas. All trying to get something for the wife which she didn't like anyay, I'm sure there's a moral in there somewhere.

Nope, nothing in Mythbusters. The radar episode is as close as it gets.

I think there is little merit in this product, with RBT & number plate recognition systems in effect, you're likely to get busted wearing it.

Redkatana, I think you will find that the covers can be seized for two reasons. Firstly, to prevent the continuation of an offence (fairly slim), and more probable, as evidence of the offence. Once seized they can be retained as evidence, leaving you to apply to a magistrate for the return.

Terry

Hmmm I'd probably tend to disagree, that would be the same as them seizing your bike to prevent you from speeding again. The only seizure legislation I can find relates to radar detectors so I would hazard a guess and say it doesn't exist. Seizure for the purpose of evidence pertains only to criminal matters covered by the Crimes Act 14 of 1900 and therefore doesn't apply to ghostplates, so unless the wallopers said "Can I have your plate cover?" and you said "yes, please take it" they couldn't be removed from your possession.

As per most things on the forum, a lot depends on which state you are in
Cheers,

Not that I've personally tested the theory, but I've heard of some guys using hairspray (basically a gloss lacquer) and smearing vaseline on the number plate.....they both reflect the flash of prying fun-nazi cameras. The boys in blue should spend more time getting those mobile boat anchors (Harleys for the uneducated) with straight through pipes off the road...they sound like wet farts most of them!!!
