fitting brake pads help!!
#1
Hi all,

Hope someone can help me.

I'm trying to fit a new set of brake pads (EBC HH's).

I've got the two front rights in, and the inboard front left in. But I'll be buggered if I can get the last pad in!

I can fit the current worn pad in, but I can't get the pistons back far enough to fit the new pad in. The top two pads appear to work more dependant on each other than the bottom one. I can push the top one in and the middle one pops out, I can push the top and middle one in and then the bottom one pops out. I can't seem to push them all in and have them stay in. When I push them all in together the top one pops back out before I can get the pad in.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks for getting the last pad in.

Cheers

I leave the old pads in place and push the pistons back using expansion pliers against the inner face of the old pads. Gives even pressure to all pistons at once. Seems to work OK for me.

Ditto, and if you don't have expansion pliers, make sure you put the old pads back in and use a large flat bladed screwdriver to lever the pistons back in. While you do the other side, fit a piece if thin timber between the pads you have just squeezed apart - then go directly to the other side and do the same.

No damage to new pad faces this way.

Hope this helps.

I use a cheap old quick release cramp with old pads it works a treat just beware of fluid overflowing from the master cylinder on to painted surfaceses are you removing the master cylinder cap to allow for fluid to be pushed back to m/cylinder.

May be too much fluid in the resevoir, drain out a little, if that doesnt work try the angry mans trick and yell abuse at the pistons, still no good then loosen the bleed nipple, the pistons will stay in when pushed, give it a bleed afterwards.

Hi all,

Thanks for the suggestions.

I took some of the fluid out using a syringe and then put the lid back on the master cylinder (I thought it would be less messy) and the pad went in no problems.

Been for a test ride and all's good.
