This is what I found in the pickup a year or 2 ago . The last rebuild there was nothing to be found. I assume these are remnants of the factory assembly or the previous owner??
anyway, just a carry over from Wearleg's issue without contaminating the post.
Pieces appeared to be Silicone gasket material in nature

They should know never to use silastic on a sump

Looks like the coating from the pan (sorry Pan) gasket.
Make sure there is nothing in that pickup (which I doubt) after cleaning it - better still $25 from memory for a new one.

Yer, I'm not sure Leonard , although the sump gasket is a graphite coated material and no silicone should be applied to it. I think it originated from the split cases and an over zealous Japanese assembly worker??
I only look for metal these days........ and havent found any. New crank / rods will go in soon. <i></i>
