OIL AND FILTER CHANGE
#1
Might be a silly question but need some advice...... I did my first oil and filter change the other day and found an anomaly.... the book says the bike will need 3300ml of oil after an oil and filter change, but for some reason it took over 4 Ltr to get it up to level in the viewing glass...........

whats going on? am I missing something??

also, my rear brake feels spongey after removing and replacing the rear wheel, but i might be immagining it.............

bike needs to be level, ie not on side-stand. 4ltr sounds like too much unless you removed and drained your oil cooler as well. Maybe the container had less than 4ltr in it to begin with?

when I change oil and filter it always nearly empties the 4 litre container.

There is an anomoly that is for sure.
Both the GEN 1 and GEN II busas takes about 3.5 litres if you drain it and then refill it on the side stand and then lift it to the upright position as it says to do in the handbook.
If you change the oil filter as well it takes about 3.8 litres.
If you completely drain the bike of oil as per a strip down and then refill it. It takes about 4.2 litres.

Then GEN II handbook says that you must let the bike idle for 2 minutes at 2,000 RPM before checking the oil level to get the correct vision in the guage on level surface.
Overfilling the oil will cause it to prevent correct circulation and lowers power output.

Always good practice to do an oil and filter change together...I know often manufacturers say otherwise.

Sorry Busgo, had a bit of a laugh when I read that, You should see what happens to the power output when using a cut or flat sump when you dont overfill it!!!! Scary

Can you say "Rod Bearings"

Yeah but if you've got a cut or flat sump, what is the capacity?
I'm only passing on what is in the maintenance handbook.

Compared to stock:

2" flat holds more oil,

cut stock, about 100ml less.

If you ride like the "handbook" tells you, then do what it says.

If you give the bike "what for" everytime you take it out then a bit more oil wont hurt.

On my 9th busa now
Full 4ltr bottle in every time on every bike on every oil change
never had a problem
Drag bike even takes .5 ltr more

I wouldnt have put more than 4ltrs in how much more are you talking?
The Pads would have pushed back a bit in the caliper when you
removed the wheel so you only would have had to give the pedal a few pumps to get it right again
Did you get anything on the disc or pads?

I dont think i got any lube etc on the rear disk, i might pull it down and have another look.

as for the oil, it wasnt over 4 ltr, it was about 3.5, i'm just a retard.
