im pretty sure they changed the legislation regarding this a couple of years ago. you can get a switchblock from Mick Hone that has the headlight switch on it so theres no major modding required.
you might want to check with a few of the other blokes first though cause I always seem to be in trouble for something so dont take this as fact....

Correct Matt in Vic

But why would you want to turn your head light off, rather be seen than hit

And the newer models have a hazard warning switch in place of the blank sport we have had for years in place of the on/off switch. For years I hated the fact that they had taken the choice of light on / light off from us. Now I just ride with my light on, but still take for granted the fact that the idiot in the car will not have seen me, that way I try to be ready to take evasive action - or brace for impact!Knuppel2

that's why I love my new HID's.
When cagers in front of me start lowering their rear view mirrors to stop being blinded and oncoming drivers are squinting at me....... in broad daylight... I know I'm being seen.

The MRA fought for and one the right to not have to ride with your headlight turned on during daylight.

I don't know why. I think it was a principle thing.

I would prefer to have it on. It doesn't seem to affect the life of the globes at all, in fact I reckon they last longer than they used to.

How did this end up in the photos thread? Is it illegal to post a poll in a photo thread?

Yes that happened to a mate with a BMW who made the mod to turn his light off.
