Potential new owner decision...what Busa to get?
#1
...been working on expanding the ACT crew numbers...it's looking close as just spent half w/end driving to Blue Mtns looking at orig unrestricted 99 Bus for my father-in-law.

Came away a little undecided as on the way home he pondered whether adding the difference for 05 like mine or even jumping in w/ both feet as he really likes the all-black '07.

His initial/main interest was the novelty/classic/collectability of the original Bus especially factory unrestriction and 340 km/h speedo. I pointed out seriousness of the CCT issue in no uncertain terms + some other minor recalls/corrections, insisting on presence of oil line addition I've been reading about.

i.e. was to ride one down, but mentioned I'd want to be indeminified if it should stop due to CCT on the way home.

Dilemma is he'd like to get back into riding and use it for commuting ~120km/day to cut his fuel bills a bit...realisation of course just isn't really compatible with storing a orig low kms 99.

My advise has been 2003+ for better FI and most of tech fixes down, on Sun reiterated said I'd be getting as new model as $$ will buy, as reliability is important clocking up moderate kays. His parter feels the same way and he got to thinking well, @ $12-14k he's really not all that far off a brand new unit.

Usual story I guess, he's arrived exactly where I was about 12mths ago i.e. you pays your money and youse get what you pay for. Just got to decide how much he wants to spend!

Mate as to the CCT all you have to do is get the rego number or even the VIN numbers and pass them onto a local Suzi dealer they will do the check for you I bought my 2000 model and done the above mentioned all came back sweet and if i had of taken the seat off i would have seen the recall sticker the rear subframe hasnt been done on mine but that is no biggy at the moment as i dont have a pillion that often.. Your old man has to have a figure in his head on what he wants to spend if he wants a $10k bike then that is what he spends but if he is willing to spend the $18k on a 07 well then there is nothing to discuss is there go and buy the thing and start riding it either way he wil own a Busa and thats all that matters at the end of the day Cheers

My Last 3 Rides -> 02-Busa, 06-M109R, 00-Busa

There has never been a recall on the subframe.
You only need to change it over if you are going to load up with more than 195kg total weight.
Mine still has the alloy one and a simple reinforcing bar across the frame above the battery terminals has kept it unbroken for nearly 8 years.

The CCT recalls are easy to check. Simply lift the tank and if there is an oil line to the CCT it is OK.

I have a 99 busa with 100k on the clock and it is as good as new.(but I look after it)
I went through the dilimma of choosing to replace my bike with a newbie or keep her and I've chosen to stick with the 99.
They are solid.

yeah, we lifted the tank and I could not see an oil line...then again I'm not familiar as the reference pic is with side fairing off. Owner wasn't keen to remove fairings. I understand his reluctance, prob feel the same. OTOH if we're close to buying we'd have pushed it as conditional on sale.

I will lift my own tank for comparison as I presume all later models come with it standard or is it totally different set-up on K5?

my opinion on the matter is, if you want to buy a second hand one then a '99 or '00 for around the 10 mark makes it a good buy. Re cct, I found the topic with pic what to look for ie oil line and made it sticky. Back to bike buying. Paying anywhere between 12-15 seems bit pointless to me if you can buy new one for a great runout price. Theres nothing like owning one since new as you know how youve looked after it or not. So either a new black one or a good '99er would be the way Id go. just my opinions.

He's not bad, is he? Volvi is worth following too. A good rule of thumb is if you make Volvi happy, the rest of the planet is a piece of cake. (Sorry, for talking about you too your face bro. By the way, I paid more than you for those tyres even though old matey said he would charge me the same. Since my wife had just hosed me out of quite a few dollars, I figured it wasn't my day. Good tyres but, what do you think so far? Edited by: glen66 at: 12/2/07 17:14

Yep. 580. I likey, they inspire confidence nicely. They said my bridgys had a weird super hardness about them. I reckon from getting hot then cold, over and over in short bursts. I think they went off. Wow, I've done a top job of high-jacking this thread. Sorry, time for the pirate.
