The local paper has declared that Fitzroy street will be one of 14 test shopping strips for 40 km/h speed limits. 40!!!! If the trial period is successful, then most shopping strips in the state will be dropped to 40!

The positive thing i can see with that is that it might stop the lunatics who actually drive 60kph through crowded shopping strips when a safe speed would be 40. At night though having to do 40 would be pretty harsh. I'd hope they use some common sense and time slot the 40k zones.
