Rego and Insurance
#1
G'day,

Interesting reading on the cost of Comp Insurance.

Have jsut received my insurance renewal for the 02 Bus and the Chancellor of the Ecchequar is not impressed with the $400 CTP (NSW) costs.

Was wondering if NSW Bus drivers can provide me with cheaper alternatives?

Poh- hi there,
You didn!t say which state you live in, but if you are in N.S.W. C.P.T. is dictated by R.T.A. Legislation and a few Insurance Companies offer policies.
Basically Busas fall into over 300cc capacity and riders under or over 25 years of age.
If you dial up www.rta nsw.gov.au it will give you a webpage and a section on insurance ,listing companies with their rates based on whether you live in the city or the country.
I generally find Q.B.E the cheapest.
Then if bikes are over three year old you need a pink slip (roadworthy)
Bloody lot easier and cheaper in Vic.

Solo registration is when you permenantly alter the bike so only one person can fit on it, ie by removing back seat and rear pegs. This has to be certified and the bike has a compliance plate fitted. Then the registration is changed saving considerable money (particularly in compulsory third party). This is what I did to my first bike in Qld 15 years ago. I'm not sure if things have changed.

Yes, well that makes sense.

My first bike (GPX250) had on the registration that it was a GPX250 SOLO, but it had pillion seat and pegs, so I never put 2 and 2 together, and always was curious as to what it meant... Someone once upon a time must have told a porky about the bike before I acquired it... I don't know if there was a saving in the rego, though...

Hi There.
I have got to register my ZZR 1100 by friday in N.S.W. and it is going to cost me,
$16.00 Inspection Fee.
$335.00 compulsory Insurance.
$87.00 Registration
We cannot register bikes as yet under the single seat system although somebody is pushing the issue at the moment, ( NOT HOLDING MY BREATH).
Also talk of a multi bike rego but doubt it will happen in the near future.
Now that all the Vics voted Bracks back in to power (so much for protests) ,wonder will we get hit with a similar $50 levy.

If a car is only a 2 seater instead of a four, then it gets more expensive to insure, so why does a bike get cheaper if it carrys less?

Food for thought
