Oil leak
#1
Hey guys,

Ive noticed a few spots of oil under the bike lately and because it was dripping from the stator cover I thought that was it. I pulled the bike apart from the top to see if I could find another source though and I found the 'thing' in the picture below leaking.

Its located just under the idle adjuster on the right side of the motor (as you sit on the bike). The nut wasnt all that tight so I did it up about 3/4 of a turn. Then I wiped it down and ran the bike stationary for a few minutes. So far it hasnt leaked again but maybe it needs to be ridden for a while before the leak starts?

Can anyone identify this banjo bolt? Ill assume leaking is bad from there and ask what I have to do to fix it?

Thanks!

Hi,

I would see how it goes now after you have put the spanner to it. But if it still leaks then I would buy two 2 alum washers and and take out the old ones and replace the two you just bought. Don't over tighten it. You could run the motor to get to the running temp and check it them. But I feel you should go and buy two washers Aluminium the same sizes and replace them anyway. When you take to pipe off have a very good look at it to make sure it is ok.

Where should the washers go mate? between the two sides of the banjo bolt?

Good spotting Dave! Ill have a closer look tonight at it. I didnt even see it until you pointed it out.

If it is a crack do you know what the unit is called so I can order a replacement?

Thats the cam chain tensioner ................ refer manual when removing for if cams are in wrong position when you back the tensioner of the cams can jump teeth on the chain ............... not a problem in itself until you crank it over Pi_freak

Gee I looked at it and didn't see the crack and ware glasses. Have to go see about my eyes. As for the washes, if you have a leak they should be replaced because oil has found away past the alum washer and you will have some ware there. retighting the bolt 3/4 of a turn you may have a ring mark on the washer now. Best when you go to replace the cracked bit check the washes. You don't have to replace them, but being me I would. Been in HYD'S to long!! One other point I remembered is Aluminium expands more then steel and cools down quicker and after a while you can receive a oil leak from the banjo joint. That's why when we do a service we check all the joints to make sure no leaks and lose nest of the bolts make sence??
Thanks John
