Rode into town and fueled up for work and bike acted like battery flat when went to start. Fitted new rectumfryer 2wks ago and seems to charge alright. Hasnt missed a beat in 400ks. Continued on to work 145ks of tas westcoast roads as not enough time to grab car and ran fine. Runnin round town to grab crib did it again but started ok when bike cooled down . Could battery be on way out? and what is best one to replace with? Also noticed lightning bolt symbol on dash below where it says gear. Is this normal on Gen2? thanx guys any help with this prob

Go back to Suzuki and complaint about the fact that the faulty rectifier has eaten up the battery and claim a new battery.
Pm me for more info or email of service manager for Suzuki motorcycles in Aus

I had the rectifier replaced and also thought it would fix hot start problem. Seems problem maybe quite common. Always reluctant to stop for fuel time it takes to fill, pay and reorganise can present start problem. If it does not start and presents as unable to turn motor over I stop and wait another 15 mins and then it starts ok. If I persist in starting straight away it battery discharges enough so that the instruments fail to work. I may need to change battery also possible for it to have been damaged.

Well reading about the recall Rectifiers, it said it will or may discharge your battery and find it hard to start. But if the Rectifier was giving out too much charge that for sure will cut the life of the battery and stuff a cell.
When I received my Gen 2 a few months ago it would not start at all. Charged the battery up and away it went. But left for two days and the battery was flat. So I bought a new one and have had no trouble since. But I find out later that the Rectifier had to be changed because it was in the VIN# for recall. So maybe because the weather up was crap I never rode the bike at all. So if the Rectifier would have stuffed my other battery I wouldn't know now as i cleaned the terminals which did have corrosion under battery clamp where the earth and live wire go on the battery. So who knows if my old battery was stuffed because of the Rectifier.
First thing I would do is check the battery terminals to see if any corrosion and clean. Check to see if the battery is charged up as that will stop the bike from starting because a hot motor is harder to start then a cold or warm one. If you find that the battery is flat or is under charged then for sure buy a new one. Most bike stores have the replacement for you bike. which one is the best not sure as there are some many today on the market. But I would buy a jap made one or Australian made battery and gelcell one.
Thanks John

When I checked VIN with Suzuki 2wks ago apparently mine was not one of ones affected by recall-but when mentioned problem to shop I got bike from they said they had rectifier that was meant
to be fitted before bike was sold but bloke dealing with it was on holidays when I bought it.. I will see them on monday to see if can do anything about new battery? I might have to give them a subtle reminder that this is 3rd high dollar bike I have bought from them in 3yrs and I spend lot of money on my bikes-Good customer service goes long way with me. If I happy,my wallet opens easier... Thanx for feedback guys..hope to have sorted soon.

Having largely ignored the rectumfrier threads, I encountered something unexpected this week on my 2010/11. I was aware the battery may have been lowish due to limited riding over the past few weeks, but after about a half hour or so of riding in traffic (temp gauge was as high as I've seen it) I stalled the bike (yes my fault entirely). When I tried to re-start all indications were that the battery was near flat and I was up for a push start. A few prods on the starter got the engine back into life, although at no time did I get a healthy spin going. After getting it going and returning home all was good.
Only thing I can think of is some sort of compression lock, as it cannot have been the battery due to the short period of time between the problem and getting home.
