Gen 1 - Engine Cut Out after de-excelleration
#1
Hi all

Yes another problem with the busa 99. After getting everything sorted with the F1 and wiring last year.

Currently: (in short)

Riding the bike at 4K and under all good.
The problem exists after reving into 5,6,7+, then snapping the trottle closed.

(Full details)

I've ridin the bike a few times in the last week, with this problem being more evident each time. Riding the bike along, take it up to 6K (saying), then hold it at a steady rpm, The tacho, will drop to 0rpm, Or the other type of instance is if you are riding along at 6K say, then back the throttle off and snap it back open, then tacho drops to 0rpm,
** Along with this the engine seems to cut out, all other lights and electronics on the dash are fine. ** To recover from this = Ive had to pull the clutch in and give it a few short sharp twists of the throttle to get it back running again (its as if it has just ran outta fuel). All is fine, ride along smooth and all is ok, Try to repeat th above and it chucks a whammy.

The bike has had the list of things checked and serviced over the last 6 months.
- Fuel pump and hoses, etc, all striped and cleaned, fliter replaced. 8mnths
- New plugs and Yoshi box tune 8mnths
- Titanium Pipes fitted 6mnths
- New wiring harness and reg.rectifier 6mnths
- New battery 4 mnths

Not sure where to start looking.
1st idea - fuel pump?
2nd idea - throttle position sensor?
3rd idea - forum, scratch head??

Any help or thoughts on the situation would be apprciated.

I'm no mech, but I would start with the TPS. but I'm sure someone can give you better info as to what it may be. Hope it's not to major.

I would also suggest a thorough check of all electrical connectors. Specially the ECU, injectors, ignition, fuel pump and around the instruments. It might be that some vibration (like snapping the throttle) cause break of continuity on a loose connector. Specially that you have replaced all the wiring. Are all the looms routed correctly? They might be some rubing through the insulation and shorting. And finally check if all the fuses are fully in their nests. Cheers

Thanks for your suggestions.

Im actually off the road for 3 months, as a loss of points, Not from the busa, But funny enough the car has been the problem, or maybe I should put it in away that I cant drive normally and get too easily excited.Scary

Ive a lot of plans for bling and updates.

So it will be completely striped down in the lounge room. I'll check all the electrics, etc....

New additions,
- Chome triplle clamp, hand grips, bar ends, levers, etc.
- New style indicators on the front
- Rear is getting a new all in one rear tail light system and undertail unit
- Ive part paint stipped and polished the wheels in the past, But decided to go the whole hog this time and do the complete rims.
- Wavy disks, braided lines, Pads, etc
- Possibly a PC3
- Alarm needs to be installed correctly and more nicely as I did a chop job on it to see how it would work before
- New seat re-covering, or I was thinking of going a Corbin
- Gearing was going to be changed, running 16-43, was going to go 16-45, As I commute on it avergae 500kmls per week, and gettin a little shirty with havin to slip the clutch a little in heavy traffic
- Not sure what else yet, But some ideas keep coming, and will probably be there when its in the raw.

Thanks for all your support, and I hope to be at the Busa Run in December...Clap

Mine has done this before. Lift your tank and check your fuel hoses aren't kinked. If one kinks it will suck from the other, but as you back off it will starve. Be very careful to make sure the hoses dont kink when you put it back down.

Yeah, that old chest nut again , caught out Many 99 2000 owners .Dave, I've got a copy of a suzuki service bulletin ,From Carbon Busa ,Which has diagrams & descriptions of the correct fuel hose route's .It is Important & will cause problems if not correct. If you want a copy ,Pm your postal address to me & I'll post you a copy. (not clever enough to post it on the forum ).There are a Few SPECIAL thing's involved with the 99-2000 that do not apply to the later model's , That's why their Faster .

I read of stories here on the forum about the PC 3 conversions that some members did. And now they wish they didn't. I suggest do some homework on this and talk to experts like Peter (fasterfaster) Legend or Maj. Could save you money and the troubles. Just a point ot consider.

Hi Dave
I could be wrong, but in my experience if the tacho starts to do random things its usually means its some kind of electrical gremlin.Hope this may help. Jim

When my tacho did crazy things it was the reg/rectifier overcharging... Hope this helps!
