Planning my Solo Run, 2013
#1
Just putting it out there,

In two years time I will be 45. I have been thinking about a Solo Run from Adelaide to Darwin, then a return trip back to the Central Coast where I reside. On the Run north I want to make a diversion to Moomba for a site visit,( If I can arrange it through work) of the Santos Oil/Gas Plant. Maybe Lake Eyre. I also want to go to Ayers Rock, then onto Darwin.
I have been thinking about this since I bought my Hayabusa in Christmas 2008. I also did read on the forum where a couple of crazy members went on a two week run around Australia, and that really fasinated and inspired me.
My Hayabusa was my belated 40th birthday present to myself after going through a terrible marrage break up. I love my bike so much and thought just the Busa and I should do this together. My current partner understands this dream of mine and fully supports me in this. This is probably a crazy idea but i am serious about doing it.

I have a couple of Questions:-

When would the best time of the year be to do this?

What would I have to consider,( regarding maintanence ) when riding dirt roads?

I may come up with more questions as I plan this, so the help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Vellaterra

Unless your happy to ride in 50 deg plus , Don't go near Moomba if full summer .

I did a run after my marriage hit the shitter. It was awesome. I went from adelaide to mt gambier, down the great ocean road to melbourne and home in 5 days.

Not being a seasoned rider i had the sorest arse and back when i got home.

Cant wait to do something like this again. Nuthin like the open road, the busa and a credit card in ya pocket and a few clothes in the gear sack.

All up think it was round 2000km, didnt have to worry about any mechanical issues, despite running on vapour a few times due to poor fuel planning!

Good luck Brutha enjoy your trip.

Yeah, I was going to suggest doing it in the middle of winter also. It might be a little rough at first, but once you get into stride the weather will only be getting better.

Hi Heidi,

I just re reread about your great Oz Tour. Mine run is about 4,000K's less than yours. I am really geared up to do this. My only worry is getting out of Moomba to Coober Pedy, Its an 800Klm plus run, and I think I am going to have problems about fuel issues. But I am working thru this.
Heidi, how did you go with your "Rack". I am thinking of getting mine strengthened just so I don't have the same issues. Any other tips will be appreciated.

Our racks all broke, Bruce's broke twice, mine split and fractured. They are NOT up for the task at all. Bruce did a brilliant job of designing a new bracket, welding and re-enforcing all three so we won't have the problem again. You have a bit of time, I'll take a photo and you can get it done. Was there a photo of the new bracing on the trip blog? I know I've posted it up somewhere, it was really clever

We organised to have oil and filters in Collie so we could do an oil change, not a bad idea.

Heidi, There wasn't a pic of the mod, so a pic would be appreciated.
