Just got power back at my place in Cairns yesterday so thought I'd post up a message about how things are up here.

Winds and damage in Cairns were nowhere near as bad as we could have got - only about 100kph. Quite a few trees and fences down everywhere but, and the roof on the parking lot at one of our local shopping centres went down. Traffic lights ended up getting twisted too.

Still we didn't get it anywhere near as bad as our FNQ brothers and sisters in Tully, Mission Beach and Cardwell. Was shocked to see the damage in the paper - my heart goes out to you guys and I'll keep you in my prayers. Hope no one from the club lives down there.

Thought I'd just post up a couple of pics of the damage - my favourite is the one where we've bunkered down the 3 bikes in the garage to keep them safe - not that they'd be too safe if we go t mass flooding anyway.

Cheers,
Paul.

glad to hear your good.

We got winds up to 160km/hr here in Bushand Beach (North Townsville). (160 doesn't sound like much compared to 290 like tully and misson beach, but it certainly is 'unforgetable' the strength of the wind... i could never comprehend or understand 290km/hr winds, it would be unexplainable to tell a story of those sorts of winds)

My mates have been up there helping and have seen pics that the media haven't shown.... all i can say is... absolute devastation... Tully heads almost completely wiped out.

Very sad. I was very fortunate to only loose a few plants and water damage to a bedroom... people lost there whole house and living.
