Brake pad install
#1
Evening all,

Just curious to know whether to use a form of anti-squeal compound or hi-melt copper grease on the back of brake pads before install.

Tis the done thing with cages (my trade) but am unsure with bikes.

Reflection on your expertise is most welcome.

Cheers

If I could find it I'd use it, but when I've asked for it in the shops they looked blankly at me. What product do you use?

That said, I don't seem to have had any problems with the front brakes and very few problems with the rear one, without using it.

Generally just a high melt copper-based grease (Copr-cote) is the way to go. Repco, Supacheap etc should stock it.

Works wonders as an anti-sieze on wheel nuts etc. (cagers)

Cool,

Just thought I'd clarify thats all. Saying that, I don't think I've ever heard my pads squeal, And they are real low.

Brilliant, thanks!

Product in UK is called Copperslip, so didn't know what to ask for here. Haven't needed it on the bike, even with all the riding in the rain I've done, but a must for cars.
