2000 model issues?
#1
I'm looking at buying a '00 Busa. Super clean, low (31k) kms and a decent price.
After reading several reviews they seem to have a couple of issues I'd like further clarification on.
External fuel pump; Once replaced is it an ongoing issue, likely to keep playing up? How common is / was the problem?
Cracked rear subframes; Common? Fixable? how easy is it to spot an issue with the rear subframe when doing a pre purchase look over?
Any other problems i should look for?

The fuel pump has very small filters in it that clog up - you need to pull the pump apart and clean/replace them - mine were done around 30k but it depnds on how clean the fuel you put in is so could need doing anytime - you will know when as you get fuel starvation problems.

The rear subframe on the 99 models were aluminium and some did crack around the welded section where it bolts onto the main frame. you will need toget it rewelded or fit a steel one if it shows and sign of cracking.

The cam chain adjuster was a recall to fit an oil line to it to stop it failing - bike should have a recall sticker on it to say its been done.

all i can think of at the moment - Cheers Baz

My fuel pump has not been a problem since all filters were replaced, sub frame no worry's if you don't put more than 180 kg on it, EVER ,biggest problem is the posibility of it kicking over backwards & blowing the cases to bits. Can happen but not that common .Also can't re flash computer without getting a later ECU & stator rotor ( $500 approx )for those bits & 4to 500 to fit ,dyno tune & write program . But You do get a 340km speedo & they are as mean as the 99's.If the alloy subframe ever crack's I will build a new one from chrome moly ,so I don't consider that an issue .

Electrics! Especially if it's been ridden in the rain a lot.
Check the plugs at the rectifier and stator - under the tail and under the seat somewhere.
In the end, I just hardwired them in.

It's not really a bigger issue on the 2000, but as an older bike it might have had more exposure to rain and neglectful maintenence.

I was recently informed on here that gearbox problems are more frequent from 2004 onwards.

Does this mean that my '03 sits happily unscathed between these problems or are there problems that include the '03.

Have never had a problem with her except the flanno getting caught on the bars and tipping her off the paddock stand.........

Flanno I hear you cringe?? I live in Bligh Park - FORMERLY a west aussie. Does that explain it enough??
