Faulty TRE - symptoms
#1
I have been getting what felt like a skip in the firing sequence lately especially in hot weather.
This felt like a spark plug not firing rather than a hesitation that you get with fuel starvation.
The problem was that it was not continuous and only appeared after the bike warmed up to what could be described as hot. Like on a 1 hour ride.

After checking a few things and finding nothing wrong, I decided to remove the TRE as an elimination option.
BINGO. The missing firing sequence is now gone completely.
I suspect that my TRE has a dry solder or a loose connection that breaks contact when hot. I will do without for a while and get it fixed by an eleco.
I will post up the results.

I was unable to find a fault with the TRE.
So, I cleaned all the connections under the tank and sprayed with WD40.
Reconnected everything and checked the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) for code placement.
After the engine warms up the indicator sits low like this _C00 but after a bit of a rev and then stabilise the throttle again it goes back to -C00 where it should be.

The bike is going in for major service next week and I will have it sorted on the Dyno.
In the meantime, since I did the things above, she is back to running as sweet as a nut again.
Running without a TRE is a pain once you are used to having one.

I know what you mean , we had a play at the strip with it on

and off, the bike felt like a bag of shit with out it on. I only

did a few runs like that and went back to the pits to put it

back on, Mark ( Harley Mark ) was amazed at what it sounded

like when we fired her up again .

Just two different bikes it was Regards Richard
