Dyno Run In
#1
Hi Guys,

Wanting your thoughts on running in a K9 on the dyno.

I have been told that once he finishes with it, it will produce more HP than a bike run in on the road, and said that it can be riden hard/raced straight away (not that i'll be doing that).
Regards,

John

Never done it but I cant see why you might not have a better result. You'd have a lot more control over what goes on. The cost per benefit ratio will possibly kill the idea tho. Couple years back a mate bought a new Suzuki SV1000S, he was recommended to run it in by hard acceleration and deceleration over a pretty short period of time. Nothing fancy.

I've often heard people say that demo bikes seem to make more horsepower as they've been thrashed from new. The reason being put down to the fact that the engine is looser than another bike of similar kilometres. I think many racers only put about 500km on their bikes before racing for the same reason.

The downside however is in the longevity of the motor. If it was me, I'd be running in to the maufacturer's specifications and not putting it on a dyno until its done several thousand kms.

The Dyno place is well respected an I have heard nothing but good things from people that have used their services (no one i spoke to had used the run in service).

They also guarantee their work.

Why am I being ripped off?

He will have the bike for one day...

I'm looking for reasons, for or against. I have pleanty of people saying yes, I have plenty of people saying no, but not many are giving reasons for their opinion.

I am after a response from people that know about dynos and, even if the HP claim is bull, is there any benefit in doing it? Appart from cost is there a reason not to do it?

I put it up here because most of you guys know these bike, they are your passion and I would hope to get helpful answers.

John

Personally, I find that running a brand new bike in on the road is one of the highlights of buying a new bike.

But thats just me.

FF thank you for your detailed response.

Busgo, I know what you're saying, you really get to know the bike in that period, become intimate with its quirks.

I think that comment has answered my question.

Thanks guys. Pi_thumbsup
