On a sadder note Fred Stafford who kicked the famous goal in the 1947 Grand Final died a few days ago. The funeral was yesterday and it was great to hear the nice words said about Fred, mainly how humble he was about the big win.
Another interesting note was that Fred and Beryl were child sweethearts from 5 and 6 years old! (Beryl only passed away suddenly 13 mths ago.) The Carlton flag was there as well as the winning Grand Final cup. I am sure Fred is smiling. Fred and his wife Beryl were very close to my parents and I have fond memories of Fred and Beryl and their son Fred junior visiting us often in Clifton Hill where I was brought up. Was an interesting game. I know I'm vocal about being not interested in footy among other things, BUT, when a mate calls at 4.30pm & says "I've got a couple of spare Corporate Member tickets to the game tonight, ya wanna go??", well..... I'm there. Free food, free booze, & a padded seat........ All within 25mins walk from home.........
And the fireworks were interesting
