I just bought an 09 busa Its not run in yet only 600 k's on clock when and bought oil and filter for when change is due. Dealer recommends I change at half the manufacturers suggestion of 1000k's is this ok or just a money grab? I'm going to do the work myself as I don't trust dealerships after seeing how cars are worked on lol. (I'm mechanically proficient I might add.)
PS is it much of a pain in the arse to get fairing off, and which side is the oil filter and sump plug on? lol
Thanks from the newbie in advance.

Hey mate,
Fairing is a pain in the arse until you've done it once then it's a breeze. I find it helps to raise the tank when doing it, but have done it many times without bothering to do so.
I'd change the oil/filter earlier, and again at 1000klm.
As a member here called kawasuki once said:
"anyone who runs there bike a 1000 klms with all that shit in the motor has rocks for brains, i have seen oil after approx 1000-1200 first service with little shiny bits in the oil ,now that goes around and round your little motor. After 350 i would drop the oil and put some new stuff in and again at 800 , spend a few $$ and save your bores."

I agree with TimF re changing it a couple of times before the first service. I change mine at 200km, 500km and 800km and the magnetic sump plug on the busa will show you why it's a good idea. The first oil change was oil only as I was struggling with the fairing and worried about breaking off tabs, but there is an excellent thread on here on how to remove it and it is a piece of piss once you've done it once.

I think changing the oil early is a waste of money. If I saw shiny shit in the oil at any stage I would be alarmed. Impossible to see shiny shit if filter is working ok actually dont see how it could be with out serious damage having been done to engine. I would recommend normal manufacture servicing.

Changing it at or before the 1000k mark is best.
For road use, after that the recommended servicing and oil are best for a busa motor.
115,000 Ks of handbook maintenance have left the old busa in perfect condition.
The Gen II motor has even better lubrication channels and better bore surface than the older bus so should last even longer with normal care.

Just a quick update.
I just changed the oil again at 25,000 ks on the 08.
I have used Motul 3100 Gold on this bike since new and without the filter, it took exactly 3.5ltrs.
The old oil had 6,500 ks on it and it looked a little dirty but when rubbed between fingers it appeared almost as clean as the new stuff that went in.
The bike is running as sweet and quiet as the day I rode it home.

personally id leave it to the 1000 for a change, think it might be bit overkill twice before but and here no ones mentioned, the first service for purposes of mantaining warranty I reckon best for dealer to do and get his stamp in service book. Id hate to see any warranty issues being denied to customer for not going in to "authorised dealer" for 'important' first service.
