K8 Milestone.... 25,000 miles!!!!!!!!!!
#1
Just got back from a trip through, Colorado.... passed over this K8 milestone on the way home:

Bought the bike new last November, right before the big snowfalls started here in the Pacific Northwest. Couldn't really put the bike on the road until April of this year.

So the vast majority of this mileage has occurred in the past four months. Very Happy

The photo represents:

- six oil changes
- six sets of tires: factory 'Stones, Avon Storms, Michelin Pilot Powers, Dunlop Qualifiers, Conti Road Attacks
- 2 sets NGK Iridiums
- still on the factory RK chain (thank you, Pro-Oiler!).... but the chain is starting to make a little noise, probably will replace it soon.

Problems in the past 25,000 miles:

- only one problem.... lost the circlip retaining the shift lever on the selector rod (vibrated/broke off during high-speed runs in Nevada). That's it.... well, that, and I seem to have problems getting the rear tire to last.... Lol3

I'm finally at home for the next 2-3 weeks until the next major series of rides begin. It's a good thing too... my K8 is in desperate need of some scheduled maintenance, and definitely could use some cosmetic attention..... Coolsmiley

Hi Warchild,

Congrats on the milestone.

Given the varied tyres you have used in such a short time any insights as to mileqage and performance etc would be apreciated.

You certainly are clocking them up Warchild.Scary

In OZ, of course our kilometres are shorter but the fuel is much dearer!
Before he wrote off his first K8, CU00 had over 17,000 on it and is now racking em up on his 2nd K8.

I clicked over 10,000 on Sunday but I'm only riding weekends during winter.Biker

The Pilot Powers and the Dunlop Qualifiers were the best at feel/feedback. The Qualifier rear treadlife was fairly abbreviated... but it sure stuck like glue!

For me, the Avon Storm is the best all-around tire, for three reasons:

- outstanding dry grip
- even more phenomenal: the wet grip is unreal!
- exceptional rear treadlife, given the stickiness: ~ 6500 miles per set.

The Conti Road Attacks were okay.... not outstanding, but not bad. About 4000-4500 miles of rear treadlife.

The OEM Bridgestones, well... I *tried* to like these tires, I really did, but in the end... they were horrible. Completely worthless in the cold, were I slipped several times over the course of the tire life. The wet grip is modest, at best. The only time the tire felt okay was in the very hot dry desert. The sidewalls on this tire are so stiff, they don't provide a fraction of the feedback afforded by the Pilot Powers or the Qualifiers.

There ya go.... hope that answers your question. Coolsmiley
