DIY input request - Louwai - 28-03-2008
All,
We've kicked off the DIY section with a post from Steventh detailing Vent Mesh installation. And it's a great bit of info.
Proir to doing the actual mesh, the farings need to be removed, & then replaced after the mesh job is done.
Would someone like to offer details & possibly photos of the best way to remove & replace farings.
Making sure you add comments about all the do's, don'ts & tricky bits.

it just so happens that I have to remove my plastics this weekend to replace an oil line.
so I guess I could take pics as I do it ;) but I am not too sure of the "best" way - but I'll give it ago! :)
Will be doing the work either saturday or sunday.

Sure - I can take step by step pics on removing the plastics for both sides ;) The oil line I have to replace is at the front of the engine on the left side, might as well fit my braided clutch line while I am at it & I will take pics of what NOT to do with the mesh vents.... my painter did mine & used the wrong stickerflex LOL

Here is a brief write up on how to open the panels;
Steps to remove the panels for your 99-07 Hayabusa;
1. Tools needed for the job
a. Large Sizzers to cut the Mesh
b. 400 gm tomato paste tin (used to curve the mesh)
c. Screw Driver flat head
d. Regular tools to remove the panel (Allen key and other stuff)
2. I used Velcro to stick the mesh and to the panels.
3. Open the riding seat.
4. Open the right side Panel first, leave the centre screw intact and open all the rest of the screws along with the single plastic tap on top. Open the centre screw last.
5. pull the panel out – pulling it upwards and towards your self at the same time.
6. Open the left panel in the same way.
7. I assume that you don’t need to change the mesh in the faring so I am not adding details of how to open the faring.
8. To Open the rear panel (tail faring) open the rear seat.
9. there are 4 bolts on top of the fender below the seat – remove these
10. On both side of the fender there is a hook for tie down – these have a black plastic tip – remove the tip and you will see a Allen key hole – open both the bolts
11. There are plastic tabs (total 8) two are on the top side on the painted panel (this joints the panel under the front seat. To remove these tabs just push the centre plug in and the tab pull them out, they come off very easily (If the tabs are not coming off with very little pulling efforts then you are doing some thing wrong). There are 3 tabs each on the lower side (see picture) remove these
12. To remove the rear panel you have to undo the cable for the rear seat lock. Remove the cable outer ring from the clip and then remove the inner from the lock (to be done by hand no tools needed.)
13. While removing the rear panel you will have to undo the connection for the rear tale lamp (cable connectors).

Sounds good. When you are done, could you post it in the MODIFICATIONS section. Then I can grab it & integrate it into the other post.
