Projects - information section - Louwai - 26-03-2008 On another forum I belong to they have a "Projects / Information" section. In this section club members who are "in the know" can submit step-by-step instructions for doing just about anything. This then helps others who are newbies, or someone who just wants to see how someelse doe it. (whatever 'it' maybe). The author would also add notes about issues & problems they found when doing the specific "project" & offer ways to overcome this. It would not be an area for general banter back & forth. The Project info would be submitted to the Admins & posted by them. Anyone with questions could start a thread in the appropriate area. The info would need to be step-by-step & very detailed so that anyone could follow it. Things like Changing a headlight globe. Fitting heated grips Changing a windscreen Fitting a ctr stand Tensioning the chain Changing / replacing guage faces Right up to fitting a Turbo. What do you think????? There is already most of this info here, but it's scattered everywhere & sometimes hard to find. Would be easier if it was all in one place & formalised. RE: Projects - information section - Gunmetal - 26-03-2008 I agree, a one stop repair shop if you like. RE: Projects - information section - BUSGO - 26-03-2008 We do have the Technical Discussions for both GEN 1 AND GEN II, as well as the Modifications Discussions and Turbo Talk where all our tech info is posted. Some of the important ones are made into sticky threads at the top of the list. I reckon our coverage is what other boards are copying. Combined with the beaut search capability on our board, you can find almost anything. I admit that a lot of the photos have gone since our move from the old host site but we can continue to grow. RE: Projects - information section - GiddyUp - 27-03-2008 Excellent idea Louwai. But! Alot of very helpful people have posted over the many years that the club has been going. Including mechanics in the know. There posts have been critisised and they have been harassed. I don't blame most of them for just pulling out of the comments section. We still have some great guys that continue to help members and they know who they are. I only hope they will continue to do so. Maj750 springs to mind as well as alot of other hardcore drag racers. Great idea. I hope it takes off. Cheers, Phil. "Riding not Talking" RE: Projects - information section - The Wild Wind - 27-03-2008 This was the purpose of the "modifications" section. Step by step instructions on any thing. RE: Projects - information section - Louwai - 27-03-2008 The Wild Wind Wrote:This was the purpose of the "modifications" section. But these threads also include a lot of "banter" which sometimes makes the actual info hard to find. A lot of them are also members just "showing" their mods which have been done, but not actually giving any details. My suggestion would be that in the "Projects" section, each thread would be titled accordingly (Changing a headlight globe) for example, & that thread would be locked. It would ONLY contain the actual instructonal info. Users could then just open the specific thread they want & read the info without having to look / search thru a number of posts. If someone had questions, a thread of the same title could be started in the "Tech Discussion" section. If someone had some additional info on the specific subject, (eg: something pertaining to a particular year model) it could be discussed with the original author & the Admins & possibly have that additional info added. I personally don't like wasteing time "looking" for stuff. I like to have the suitable info on hand. I think the above suggestion would make this type of info a lot more accessable to everyone. Busgo, Have a look at this one. http://www.iceinspace.com.au/index.php?home It's not a motorcycle forum, but the content is irrelivent. It's the format I'm looking at. On the home page, have a look at the menu in the top left cnr & then go into a few of those. Most notably, are the "Projects & Articles" and "Equipment Reviews" sections. This is the type of thing I was referring to with my suggestion. RE: Projects - information section - DjPete - 27-03-2008 it would take a fair bit of work on someones behalf. I think its a great idea. It can always be done gradually...and added to as we go. RE: Projects - information section - Tony Nitrous - 27-03-2008 http://www.streetfighters.com.au/ASF_howto.asp RE: Projects - information section - RaZ - 27-03-2008 hey I am willing to put in time to go over posts / thread & put each step by step guide I can find in to its own thread.... but where to place them all? or perhaps make them sticky? Can do this as a normal user here - in fact anyone can :) there are years worth of posts to go over & get the step by step guides out of them lol just lots of copy & paste. either way - good idea, maybe just a clean up on the mods section is required? RE: Projects - information section - DjPete - 27-03-2008 I reckon the easiest way would be that we have a section where members can add the info...that way the workload is shared by all. Otherwise I cant see it happening. The Admins then tidy up and put it in the right section etc...easy. Each contributor get Kudos by having a "Contributed By...." by line. We say set up a section called How to... (Please add your how to contributions here. Try to keep to the point...no banter and be as concise as possible) Members add the info and pics...when each topic is completed it then gets moved to the locked section...done. RE: Projects - information section - Louwai - 27-03-2008 Tony Nitrous Wrote:http://www.streetfighters.com.au/ASF_howto.asp That's pretty much exactly what I'm talking about. No discussion, just straight info. RE: Projects - information section - Louwai - 27-03-2008 DjPete Wrote:I reckon the easiest way would be that we have a section where members can add the info...that way the workload is shared by all. Yeah Pete, That's sort of what I was talking about in the first post. Having the info 'submitted' to the Admins by the author in a fashion suitable for posting & then for the Admins to post it into the locked "Projects" or "How to" area. The info would need to be received in such a way that there was no formatting etc required, to minimise the amount of work required for the Admins. RE: Projects - information section - DjPete - 27-03-2008 or the post it straight up in the format already...admins could do 1 for a style to follow and then follow that. It might be better direct as things can get involved with emails etc and could mean a lot of doubling up. If direct then its just a matter of tidy up, move and lock RE: Projects - information section - TimF - 27-03-2008 Louwai Wrote:My suggestion would be that in the "Projects" section, each thread would be titled accordingly (Changing a headlight globe) for example, & that thread would be locked.
