SHAME SHAME SHAME. RE: MOTO GP'' P.I. '' - Madmax - 26-03-2008 I'm heading down with the Duck Club again, might not follwo their tortuous track this time though. 9 farking hours to get from Albury to PI - Buullllshiiet! Max RE: MOTO GP'' P.I. '' - BUSGO - 26-08-2008 A few months ago, I had every intention of getting to the Island again this year and I told another member that I would show him a good route to get there. Well, it looks like due to work issues, I might not be able to go this time so I will post up a couple of different travel options that anyone from up on the North Coast of NSW could take to go to P.I. In no particular order, these are some of the ways that I have ridden down or back from the Hunter Valley to P.I. I live in Raymond Terrace so that is always my starting point.... Of course the most direct route is the Hume HWY and I never do that. 1. Pacific / Princess Hwy all the way there. Lots of traffic and some long boring bits but still not a bad way. Turn off at Morwell and then via Mirboo North and Leongatha. 2. Putty Rd to Windsor, then via Penrith to Old Hume Hwy and as far as you can go on the old road with a few stints on the new one. Overnight in Albury, than one of many other options to get to the Island. 3. Same route to Kurrajong Hts on the Putty Rd then via Bells Line of Road to Lithgow and out to Bathurst and down to Cowra. From Cowra, you can continue on to Wagga Wagga for an overnighter, or turn off and go via Boorowa, Gundagai, Tumut to Tumbarumba for an overnighter. If you go via the Tumbarumba route, there are heaps of options over the mountains but you should plan another full day on the road to get to the track just on nightfall. 4. From Albury/Wagga, you can go to Wodonga. If you are in a hurry to get to the Island from here, you can go some of the way down the Hume Fwy and turn at EUROA onto the road to Merton. Then go via Alexandra, Healesville, Warburton, Cockatoo, Pakenham, Kooweerup and the Bass Hwy. From Wodonga, you can also choose to go out to Tallangatta and then down the OMEO Hwy to Bruthen and Bairnsdale where it meets up with the Princess Hwy again. 5. Another option is to get to Queanbeyan, Cooma and the Monaro Hwy down to Cann River and meet up with the Princess Hwy, then on. But, an alternative is to turn off the Monara Hwy on the Mt Imlay rd and go down the mountain to the Princess Hwy at Narrabarba. Make your way to Mallacoota for a night at the Hotel/Motel. The road in and out of coota is terrific and twistie and the pub is great for an overnighter and leaves a 5 or 6 hr ride to the Island the next day. These are just a few of the hundreds of options and I always go down to the Island one way and back another. It all depends on how much time you have to play. Hope these ideas offer some assistance to those travelling this year. RE: MOTO GP'' P.I. '' - motoplast - 06-09-2008 I'll be heading down from Syd' on Tuesday 30 Sep, not sure which way just yet, depends on the weather, however I will only be riding to Bairnsdale as Bundy & I have committments to the Barry Sheene Memorial Ride. Anyone is welcome to join me for the ride down. We are still in talks with the organisers re: a couple of laps on the Saturday & Sunday along with a few other committments, should be fun. We also have one or two beds still available at Cowes, if interested, PM me. Cheers, Tex & Bundy |
