Frame Sliders - Advice Pls - steventh - 03-03-2008

Hi Folks,

I have just fitted some frame sliders to my Busa and would like some advice on fitting. the ones I fitted have a small leg (about 2.5 cm long and wide) and they attach to the front engine mounts.

From what i have seen these are designed so that only a 1" hole needs to be cut into the fairing with the bulk of the slider fitting on the outside of the fairing (see pic). This is different to others that I have installed where the fairing hole is the size of the outside diameter of slider and the slider is inserted into the larger hole (pic 2).

The problem with this setup, apart from the sliders extending a long way past the fairing (Ive had to pack them out with washers), is that to service the bike I need to take the sliders off to remove the fairing. With the other way the fairing slips over slider.

The only other consideration is the the front engine mounts are in slightly differnt positions (about 1cm diference which may be why they were designed this way - a little less obvious)

How have others fitted their sliders?

Thanks for your help?

1.75 hole or a 2" hole if using a rubber groment around the hole(that is the best way)

Update on the Sliders.

1. Ended up cutting the 2" hole and inserting the sliders (as per pic 2). This was done mainly because they exteneded too far when mounted on the "outside" of the fairing.

2. the gap between the engine mounts and the fairing is about 15mm deeper on the left side. To get a symetrical fit I cut the "stub" off the RHS slider (leaving a little b/c the engine mount is sloping and countersunk).

3. I have chrome sliders - I dont recommend these. Unfortunately they can damage paintwork on other vehicles more easily than teflon / plastic sliders.

How close you ridin to "other vehicles" If your that close you should be able to polish out the mark with your trouser leg immediately after you've gouged it with your slider
