Help needed for National Library Collection - Heidi1 - 23-11-2007
Dear all
This has NOTHING to do with bikes, but everything to do with how we record our history. See the email below, the NLA has collected material from elections for years now and it is a facinating and often humorous look at the past. When you are going to vote tomorrow, take one of everything on offer and send it to the NLA. See the text below, but we are particularly interested in remote areas (that's you Dan).
Thanks guys, I've bet the other librarians that the Hayabusa club will give us more stuff than any other group combined!

The National Library has comprehensively documented federal elections since the 1980s. We have established the practice of preserving election material to provide a permanent record of this aspect of Australia’s federal political history.
The Library aims to collect one copy of all leaflets, handbills, policy, posters, speeches, press statements, pamphlets, letters and reports to constituents and how-to-vote cards, in other words the publicity published by candidates and parties. We also aim to collect items by lobby groups on election issues such as the Tasmanian Pulp Mill or Work Choices.
With another election approaching, we request Library staff assistance in the collection of material published in conjunction with the federal election to be held on the 24th November 2007.
Of particular interest are the outlying areas of Queensland, Tasmania, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. It would be greatly appreciated if friends and relatives in these areas could be contacted and asked to forward ephemeral material to the following address:
