New owner. A little confused - Tito - 24-10-2007

Hello all. I am a proud new owner of my first busa and new to this club, and my name is Tito. (knick name. Real name Lee).
Have been reading on this web site for a couple of weeks, and have to say you are the most helpful bunch of people around.
I picked up my copper 99 bike last Saturday and looooooooooove it. Have one small problem which I didnt notice on the hour ride home from picking it up. (was to busy smiling my ass off) Went for a ride on Sunday and found when quickly pulling on the accelerator, from either idle or in the lower rev range, the bike seemed to stumble or choke briefly. It has a full yoshi system. (Dont know if that would effect it)
Thanks for your time, its greatly appriciated. Also, I live in Sydney and am always keen for some riding buddies.

Welcome Tito Pi_thumbsup

Could be anything from a loose chain, worn cush drive, or just needing some tuning. Doesn't sound major!

A good place to meet a bunch of us is at the drags (WSID) on a Wednesday night or Friday the 2nd of November...

Also, I live in Marrickville, work in Kogarah, Redfern and Werrington, among other places... let me know if you want to catch up for a chat!

Welcome Tito
Possibly tuning, also check fuel filters!
Don't wear copper too long or you will turn green.
Just jokin welcome aboard.

From your brief description Tito, you are riding without a Timing Retard Eliminator (TRE) fitted.
Keep reading the technical discussion threads and you will learn all about them.

In a nutshell, the stock Hayabusa has the timing retarded in the first 4 gears below 4,000 rpm.
This is a safety device to stop it getting too hot to handle and it causes a brief hiccup in the lower area of the rev range.
Fitting a TRE gets rid of the retard and the stumble effect.

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. Ive heard a TRE is something even I can fit? I assume it goes under the seat some where? Where in Sydney is a good place to buy one? Hope its not raining this weekend, cant wait to get back on that crazy beast.Very Happy

RE: New owner. A little confused - BUSGO - 24-10-2007

I'm not sure if you can buy a TRE over the counter in Sydney.
Nearly everyone gets them off EBAY. Shop around on the web and talk to your local mates in Sydney, or even come for a spin up to Newcastle on a Saturday morning for the coffee and chat sessions.
See the Riding Not Talking threads for the get togethers.

and not all TRE's are the same, some are "smart", so do your research which one to get, Ivans Smart TRE may be the benchmark. Also you may want to consider a TRE with Gear Indicator as I have and theyre great from speedohealer.com its called the GI Pro w/Atre.

Also may be affecting your throttle response is the TPS - Throttle Position Sensor, thats a very simple thing to check and adjust, just do your homework and Welcome to the club.

Hey Simmo, should we tell him about how riding a copper bike causes dementia? Boobies4

RE: New owner. A little confused - Tito - 30-10-2007

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.Grouphug Yes Simmo, live in Sydney, and always looking for riding and tech mates. (none of my gay friends have bikes) Fitted the TRE last night, first time wrongly, (had the wrong plug) but thanks to you helpful lot, got it sorted this arvo and much to my delight took her for a spin and found no more stumbles, hicups or back fires. So a big thank you to all of you.Pi_thumbsup My already crazy fast bike, is now a little more insane.Drool
One other thing. It seems the owners of the copper beauties get a bit of a hard time! Why is this?

RE: New owner. A little confused - BUSGO - 30-10-2007
