EXCESS PETROL USE - DOMINOID - 20-09-2007

New Busa 4800km. When I bought the bike new I was getting about 380km to a tank. In the last few weeks it has dropped to 240km to a tank. have changed nothing. stock bike with exhausts use 98 to 98 octane petrol. Do not use Shell. No external leaks. Bike shop cannot find problem. They have sent a fax to Suzuki to see if anyone else has had the same problem. Any thoughts Please. Sent to DOMINOID@BIGPOND.COM. Thanks Andrew

What sort of KMs do people get commuting through the city, and then out in the country? Fuel economy in the city really sucks unless I turn off the engine at long lights. Like ~ 200km sucks.

Out in the country, I routinely do about 350 - 380 even with a pillion.

RE: EXCESS PETROL USE - Tag 13 - 20-09-2007

not boosted i was getting 17.6k/l driving to work and back

RE: EXCESS PETROL USE - evilRasp - 20-09-2007

I get between 5.3 and 6 l per 100 (18.8 to 16.6 km/l) if I take it really gentle through the city. Sometimes that involves turning off the engine at lights.

RE: EXCESS PETROL USE - Dan85 - 20-09-2007

you guys ride like pussies!!!Ghastly going to work andback i only get about 180kms out of a tank. about the 350-375 km mark on the highway

RE: EXCESS PETROL USE - RaZ - 20-09-2007

maybe due for a service & tps done with A/F?

RE: EXCESS PETROL USE - Louwai - 20-09-2007

When I first bought my 04 2nd hand I was getting about 18k/L (commuting) For the last 18mths I haven't got more than about 14k/L. No one seems to know why.

And before you say I'm riding it harder, I get 18,000klm to 20,000klm out of my rear Pilot Road. So I can't be riding it too hard.

RE: EXCESS PETROL USE - Dan85 - 20-09-2007

maybe do a fuel system clean????? mate just had his car done and uses less fuel now. just a thought. mine uses lots on the way to work because its all start stop. still is good on th highway tho i still ge about 370ish out of a tank wih my big arse on it

RE: EXCESS PETROL USE - abusa - 20-09-2007

Air Cleaner can change Fuelling. I assume no check lights have shown, all is functioning as it should. Did they put a CO2 Meter on it to see how it was running or just scratch there head!

A sprocket change will also cause it to use more fuel, have noticed that with the 16T I have been running.

Dont use 98 Octane Fuel, bike isnt set up for it, you are affectively retarding the timing. Should be using Standard Unleaded for the correct Octane Rating though unfortunately it has Ethanol which most prefer not to use. The bike can use certain percentages of according to the Manual. Maybe try BP Premium 95 instead of Ultimate and similar Fuels.

I have got over 400 klms out of a tank of Unleaded, Highway running. A similar spec bike running premium wasnt able to match it!

Apart from a leak that pretty much covers it. Let us know how you get on.

RE: EXCESS PETROL USE - evilRasp - 20-09-2007

I've found there's almost no difference with consumption with how I ride it mostly because I can't realistically use the full potential of the engine without scoring a trip to the slammer. Short bursts here and there, but even with a fast group of guys on their track bikes I was doing 7l/100 at speed. The real killer for me appears to be stopping in traffic and leaving the engine running for long periods idle.

Track may be different, anyone here got an idea of how much fuel the 'busa uses at a track day?

RE: EXCESS PETROL USE - Dave - 20-09-2007

Violin Sounds like some of you need to down size your bike from a gas guzzler to a mo-ped if you are so concerned with fuel consumption.

RE: EXCESS PETROL USE - DOMINOID - 20-09-2007

Thanks for the info guys. Still feel there is someething wrong. I'll use 91 or 95 octane and see how that goes. The team at the bike shop have it plugged in at the moment and are waiting to hear back from Suzuki. I am only getting 240 per tank and that is mostly hway. After the fuel needle gets to 3 qtr full and I am on the freeway I can actually watch the needle move down towards empty. At 4800km it was still 1200 km off its 2nd service although I,ve asked them to do that while they have got it there. Will let you know the outcome. Andrew

RE: EXCESS PETROL USE - RaZ - 20-09-2007

thats really, really weird....

maybe faulty? ... maybe a/f is totally way?? but like wow...

let us know what they say

RE: EXCESS PETROL USE - Gnarbunkle99 - 20-09-2007

I wonder if the petrol itself is to blame.
