QUIT 23rd May - bear - 23-05-2007 Dark day today, for me at least. Rain arrived just as I was nearing half track. I thought I'd missed a gear but of course it was spinning by then and the bike and I parted company at around 150 km/hr I'm guessing. 29sec run for the bike, and I nearly slid through the lights as well. No real damage considering. Alternator cover worn through but a slow leak so rode home carefully. LH mirror gone, LH side panel worn through in parts, but it just seemed to sit on it's cover and continue on without me.. Screen gone, and it snapped the small cover around the LH side of the instrument. I'll look at it again next weekend. I can say that Draggin jeans are hardly marked, considering I slid nearly all the way down the track. Gloves fine, no helmet scratches. Just a hip bruise and a sore knee. Now I know what it's like to slide and try and get up before you stop!!! Still first serious bingle I've had in 42 years of riding so can't complain. The other guy saw me sideways and tried to brake, so down he went as well. His bike hardly suffered, maybe not sliding as far, so he was lined up for a stop in the rain for another run. Top stuff! RE: QUIT 23rd May - abusa - 23-05-2007 Bugger Bear, not good, hope injuries and bike are fixed soon!! RE: QUIT 23rd May - bear - 23-05-2007 abusa Wrote:Bugger Bear, not good, hope injuries and bike and bike are fixed soon!! Well, I just had a look at the bike again, and I can't believe it's so good. Makes sense about riding fast at tracks and not on the road. Thinking back it must have rained really hard and really quick because I started dry, fell off after 8sec or so, but then slid for I don't however long it takes to stop from that speed. Yet absolutely you could find any serious abrasion to clothing! It was slippery as ice! By the time we got to the bikes, it had stopped again, but one marshall fell over just trying to stop after running to my bike to switch it off! By the time I rode it back they were prepping the track again! Mind you a thoroughly worn Shinko doesn't have any grip when there's a drip of water around. But I thought part way through it, that something, a shoe or clothing would grip and I'd start tumbling. Just my lucky day eh? Mind you I'm cancelling the July track day! Would have looked great for the spectators! RE: QUIT 23rd May - RaZz0R - 24-05-2007 what he said - lucky by the sounds of it & glad there seems to be no major engine damage :) RE: QUIT 23rd May - maggot - 24-05-2007 hey bear, by altenator cover do you mean the stator cover? if so i've got a spare one you can have(I think i've still got your addy here somewhere) post up if you need any parts and I'll dig around and see what I've got spare (no charge naturally mate) RE: QUIT 23rd May - ROD - 24-05-2007 Glad you and bike are not to bad Bear those jeans are defently made of some good gear when i went for a little slide i had burns on the leg from sliding but no damage to pants i have stock & a tinted DB screen you are welcome to one free of charge just pay the postage and might have a mirror RE: QUIT 23rd May - bear - 24-05-2007 You guys are amazing! Thanks heaps for the offers, and I'm happy to pay money for parts. I'll take the stator cover and DB screen. (I have a stock one, but I've added a gear indicator above the dash and the stock won't fit now. I'll email an address. Downgraded the speed I came off at too, went through it a hundred times, and my knee is what broke the screen and explain the cut. Couldn't figure why the screen got busted as the bike lay on it's left side all the way down the track. Checked the sheet and I reakon it was on it's side before the 660' which was 8.137. last night I was around 6.6 sec for that, so it's already on the deck I think and finally it crossed the lights at 29.46 so it slid for 23 seconds! That's a long time if you time it! Best news was I won! My bike slid over the line 0.31 sec ahead of the other guy who, deserves a medal for lining up for another run! RE: QUIT 23rd May - OLD CAHN - 24-05-2007 hey BEAR, what speed went with that 29.46 sec pass? RE: QUIT 23rd May - simmo - 24-05-2007 Far out, glad your sort of Ok RE: QUIT 23rd May - Heidi1 - 24-05-2007 List what you need, I'll rat through the shed. I probably don't have much, but you are welcome to it. No money, call it karma. HEIDI xxx RE: QUIT 23rd May - Maj - 24-05-2007 Probably raining at the other end of the track for longer than anyone realised, Good that your unhurt, Win at any cost ??? List the damage, i have accumulated lots of bits and pieces lately from a rolling chassis i brought , lots of bits are damaged but many are not. RE: QUIT 23rd May - bear - 24-05-2007 Thanks guys, unfortunately there was no speed recorded at 660' or at the end, just the time. Same for the other bike. I'll rip bits off it this weekend and make up a list of items. The sad part was that I'd collected a complete set of old fairings that were going to be painted up and used for racing, keep the original Copper Silver ones for ron. But just missed timing! RE: QUIT 23rd May - Madmax - 24-05-2007 Hey Bear, shit happens, glad you're okay. We all have spares, pout a list together and we'll help you get it back together. Max:ausflag:busa::ausflag: RE: QUIT 23rd May - bear - 25-05-2007 Thanks again. Looking at it, without stripping fairings and bits off, it looks remarkably OK. Will post details next week. Wonder if my wife will let me run her car on the last night next week???? |
