POETS Corner.... - Astro - 24-03-2007 I had a 'discussion' with a stranger today who is about to buy a ZX14 - or so he tells me. He pointed at my bike (I didn't tell him it was mine) and gave me a sorry account of the aging king. Described all its faults. At one point he even whispered to me "the brakes are so bad, it's a death trap." I sat there thrilled and enthralled by his all-knowing lecture. He went on to tell me how the ZX14 is the bees knees. Blah blah. I thanked him profusely for giving me the good oil and he seemed very pleased with himself. I didn't rise to the bait. He left before I did so he never worked out the bike was mine. On the way home, I remembered a poem I wrote about how the ZX14 and the Hayabusa might be remembered in 20 years time... so I went looking for it in the old threads. Then it struck me that there are a lot of members here who are dab hands at the odd bit of poetry, so maybe it should have a thread of its own. C'mon Faster Faster... pitch a couple of yours in and lets get the ball rolling. All welcome... write something and stick it here. Or, if someone else writes it and you think its great, post it here and give them some recognition. This poem was originally posted on the old board, in a thread comparing the ZX14 and the Hayabusa. ---- Extract from original post ---- Lets face it... only history will decide if just being the new speed king is enough to make a bike a legend. Personally, I think it takes more than that... and the busa has whatever that 'more' is. So.... lets look into the crystal ball... into the mists of the future... and see who won.... Ode to the Legend On a sunny porch many years from now, an old man takes his rest. His creaking bones and snow white hair to a long, long life attest. Far off he hears a motorbike, cog swapping fast and loud Rolling thunder through the rev range as it howls on, strong and proud. The sound approaches quickly. Pulls right up to his drive The vision brings back memories of how much he'd felt alive Back in his days of glory, that now seem so far away Then he hears his grandsons voice "Hey Pa, you well today ?" "Mum told me you once rode a bike, so I've brought mine 'round today" "I only got it yesterday, I'm out to have a play" "It's the fastest thing upon two wheels. A lot I've had to spend !" "Its bound to be the next upon the list of bike lore legend !" The old man says "Got something here I think you'd like to see" "Not sure it will mean much to you, but it means a lot to me" He wanders down the well worn path that leads back to the shed He lifts the roller door and inside, light begins to spread. At first the young man cannot see, the object of Pa's pride But through the dim his eyes detect a gleam, a shape inside. The flowing lines, distinctive hump, a shape that's like no other. With shock and reverence he cries "YOU RODE A HAYABUSA ?!?!" "I cannot wait to spread the news among my riding friends !" "You're riding with the grandson of a Hayabusa legend !" The boy's in shock ! At bike and man he stares in disbelief. "Tell me all about it Pa, and dont you make it brief !" "The busa was undisputed King, 'til the ZX14 stole our fame" "Technology had moved along, but the busa stayed the same" The memory of the change of guard made the old man sad and flat Until the younger asked, "Whats a ZX14 ????, I've never heard of that ?" Astro RE: POETS Corner.... - DjPete - 25-03-2007 bloody excellent mate. how do we compete with that! RE: POETS Corner.... - BUSGO - 25-03-2007 Yes Astro, that is a great starter and I like it as much now as when I first read it. I was also in the Kwaka shop yesterday checking out the new 07 ZX14. They have dropped the red colour option and have gone for an ALL blue or ALL black similar to the 07 busas and have dropped the "NINJA" stickers from the bike. They have also changed the wheels to no colour mag instead of the anodised or powder coated on last year's models. Still, I agree, many years from now the question will be asked. "What's a ZX14?" RE: POETS Corner.... - Ruffy - 25-03-2007 Just something i plagurised: There was movement down in Jindy, for the word had passed around That the Busas from all around were on their way, And once parked all together – were worth a million bucks In the eyes of the jockeys gathered there that day All the tried and noted riders from cities near and far And some were there to just make up the numbers Had mustered at the hotel overnight To drink and drink and brag some more – a couple had a chunder! There was Kawa, who made his pile from flogging something passing as oil, The old man with his hair as short as the author, But few could ride beside him when his blood was on the boil, Only cause his beast was made of carbon fibre So they went – and raced toward the mountain But the weather was surely against them And the old man gave his orders – no use for fancy riding now But the young men paid him no heed Ride boldly – and never fear the spills they cried As they headed round the mountain at thunderous speed When they reached the mountains summit They stopped to catch their breath That was one hell of a ride One slip was certain death they cried What was that nasty smell one said Who was it that farted? No – that’s the guy on the ZX-14 I’m sure He’s still trying to get it started He was going to show us all how to ride The fastest bike ever made But here’s something we already knew His machine just didn't make the grade Long live the king! Ruffy RE: POETS Corner.... - rob - 25-03-2007 hmm peotry hey... roses are red violets are blue The busa is hot and kawasaki - peehew!! ha ha ha, that's about the extent of my literature capability. cheers Rob RE: POETS Corner.... - bandit - 25-03-2007 Cos she smells like a new Busa RE: POETS Corner.... - MrsTony - 25-03-2007 Ok heres my contribution and yes it took me a whole 45 minutes to write it.  Enjoy!!! Ode to Precious So came the day when the CBR had to The decision had to be made on which way to go The Blackbird or the Hayabusa was the question that was asked Reading, riding, asking questions was how it was to be tasked On and on for days it seemed, a decision he could not make " Enough already" said I "Which one for goodness sake" "The Hayabusa!!" he declared , well it was more of a mutter "Well go get one" said I " cos your not getting any younger" So off we went,  he and I, with the banks approval in our hand Off to Team moto Suzuki,  Hayabusa Land Strolled up the ailse he did, way way way to the back To find his Precious, his red and black 2 years have passed since that day, still he is a happy man with his Precious underneath him , he takes on anything he can ZZR, CBR, Ducati, GSXR, it matters not For they are just dead meat, left to rot But woe betide any man if Precious is not running right Have had many a discussions with workshop managers at night. Many a swear word had been said and threats of putting spanners in places that bring tears to the eye. Teeshirts and a cap were posted out to try to appease the angry guy. Praise be for the mechanic that made Precious all good In good stead with Mr Tony he stood "Its ok mate, just doing my job" the mechanic did say To which Mr Tony said "Tell your boss you deserve a raise in pay" Precious has also given him a few new play mates Other like minded people who ride at a blistering rate Shredder and Matee, Paul and Cowboy spring to mind And all those other great people we met at Jindabyne I sometimes think about his Precious, he is a little obssessed But he doesn't have the matching tattoo and I don't own a kanji dress The only way I can keep my man happy it should be clear to see Is to give him what he wants, his Precious, some twistys and Mt Mee RE: POETS Corner.... - Astro - 01-04-2007 Average Joe Hayabusa I'm looking at this average Joe, who sits across from me. He looks like any other, nothing special I can see. Two arms and legs, he needs a shave, appearances don't tell That this guy rides a Hayabusa and by crikey... rides it well. I've wondered if I had 'the stuff', the balls to choose that ride. I've often thought "Too much for me!", I just might not survive. So there must be something 'bout him, but from here I just can't tell Coz he rides that Hayabusa.... rides it fast and rides it well. I'm taller, stronger, fitter. He looks like any other Joe ! My leathers blaze with colour, my bike has lots of go. But I look upon his brooding beast, on its side-stand large as life And tell myself "Too much for me, I'll only get in strife !" So tell me, how does average Joe control and tame that beast ? Beneath that calm exterior, must lurk Hercules at least ! But the answer is quite obvious, I've known it from the start. Its not strength, but courage. Average Joe's just got more heart ! RE: POETS Corner.... - Astro - 30-08-2008 This poem is the follow up to the first post I made here. Same guy... riding the same ZX-14. When you're on a good thing.... I know a fellow rider Own's a big black Z-14 He used to own a ‘busa On which he was dead keen. Now every time our paths cross He comes across to chat And sing his new bikes praises What is it with this prat? He says it handles better He says it has more grunt He says its much more comfy In all ways… out in front. He extols it’s many virtues It’s got much better brakes! Suspension is more modern! His bike has what it takes! Now, I’m an easy-going fellow Not one to cause a fuss. But my patience has a limit, So today, I stated thus……. Why is it that you still compare Your ‘busa to your kwack? If you’re so wrapt with what you’ve got Then shut the f*** up, Jack! If your bike is such perfection And your riding bliss is pure Why open up your cake-hole And sound so bloody insecure? For 12 months now I’ve had to cop Your thinly veiled derision If you still need validation mate... You made the wrong decision! There is but one King of the hill I don’t have to say it’s name. It needs no introduction. It’s wrapped itself in fame. So finish off your coffee And let's just chat like friends About something else, just for a change For here the sermon ends. RE: POETS Corner.... - Heidi1 - 30-08-2008 Oh Astro, you'll always be my favourite poet (ok, maybe you and Dylan Thomas). Remember that great one Bruce did to the Geebung Polo Club. Let's see if we can find it. RE: POETS Corner.... - Astro - 30-08-2008 Heidi1 Wrote:Oh Astro, you'll always be my favourite poet (ok, maybe you and Dylan Thomas). Remember that great one Bruce did to the Geebung Polo Club. Let's see if we can find it. I'm Heidi's favourite poet My writing has a fan! But the fact is Dylan Thomas Is Heidi's top-most man :( So second best is how it is On that I'm not so keen. Hey! Does Dylan ride a 'busa? And does he bag the Z-14? Oh, I'm sure his writing moves you And reeks of style and class. But can he pen the words that say "Ram your Blackbird up your ass!" His words will prove immortal Whilst mine will fade with time So Heidi dear, I understand Why you prefer his, to mine. RE: POETS Corner.... - Heidi1 - 03-02-2011 Oh Astro, you will always be my favourite. This has bought back MEMORIES!! Thanks Heidi good job ,They were the day's.We could never have too many Astro's . RE: POETS Corner.... - Heidi1 - 03-02-2011 I've just been having a hunt for Bruce's poem as well, but it might have been before we changed the club onto this site, I couldn't find it. I found some FUNNY stuff though, I found some photos from some pretty epic parties. We were only babies, we look so young in the photos. Going back, I remembered the first great bling craze that rivaled yo yos for a while, the great oil wars, the 'is copper the gayest colour' debate, the Sydney mob first getting into the drags, Max and I trundling up the highway at the merest HINT of a party, Ned, Nicholas when he was an only child..... all we wanted to talk about was bikes because we all loved what we were riding. No bullshit, just mates. But you sleep under ONE pool table... RE: POETS Corner.... - Greeny_SA - 04-02-2011 I Enjoy going over some of the old posts ,The Shit some of those bloke's (who are obviously Mate's) put on each other should be on a sit com.Would make a funny book if someone was smart enough to string it all together.Your clever Heidi. |
