A.P.E. Manuel CCT chain snaps - Volvi - 08-01-2001
Chain snapped causing over US$6.000 damages, Suzuki warranty? what do you think. Who ever had the Suzuki part installed, did the right thing, if it snaps I know I wont be up for that kind of money.

hey volvi, that's not possible, the manual tensioner is the "only" way to go according to some self appointed "experts",,
phewwww, all those that went with the suzuki recall must breathe a sigh of relief, whilst those that fitted the non-genuine manual version, will have to ride holding their breath!!!

I resent the dig, Volvi. Far from it, I am one of the least drone type persons you could ever hope to meet! Dont implicate others if you dont know who they are and what they do and you know what? Grow a sense of humour! Leave it where it should sit and if you think that the response you got from Phil deserves response, then respond, DONT REACT!

Most owners who went down the manual tensioner road probably did so out of a sense of frustration of not knowing when a conclusive solution to the problem would be available & wanted peace of mind in the interim until Suzuki came up with the fix. Nearly all early Jap bikes had manual tensioners eg Honda CB 250,350,450,750 Ditto Suzuki & Kawasaki & I never had an ounce of trouble with any of them. The only people who did have trouble were the ones who never adjusted them or had them adjusted correctly. You knew who wasn't doing it right by the racket the engines made as the loose chains flailed their way around the cam drive system. But times have changed & I'd now prefer any auto system over manual mainly because I'm too lazy to get involved any more!!

under normal circumstances i would say that it was nice to see you here however, there are a few guys that only come to our board to ridicule or post crap,,
your philosophical criticism of volvi is all well and good, but i don't see any consistency in your attitude,,
if you would have levelled your critique at those that came here with no more than a blatant offensive and then levelled similarly at volvi, i would respect your stance, but your input is totally one sided, not at all helpful and quite "faulty",,
lets see some real input or nothing and btw, how did you link yourself to being referred to as one of the 'drones'??? i saw no such reference,,

G'day one and all,
The only trouble the manual tensioners have is the wrong set up. To snap a chain it MUST have been way to tight to start with. There is a simple way to set them up and I'll explain it if anyone is interested. I've been running these tensioners for years in various bikes, and the setup is always the same.
Volvi, give me a call or mail me, I think some assistance is in order.

the cam chain tensioner issue is certainly one worthy of a lot of attention particularly, as its failure can cause some horrific engine wounds - as some of us unfortunates can attest to,,
the manual tensioner is ONLY as good as the technician that installs and services it (as col has prudently pointed out) therefore, it's subject to human error (or neglect) which in same cases can and has led to its failure with catastrophic consequences, from a monetary point of view,,
a close engineering look at suzuki's recall replacement cct will provide more than a reasonable level of comfort for those that have it fitted to their machines, as it has more than one fail safe feature, PLUS it's free, PLUS it's backed by suzuki,,
so, for the average person i would have thought that the self adjusting suzuki cct is the better way to go, but of course that doesn't line the pockets of those that blatantly (and painfully) continue to advocate the manual version in its preference,,

Well I guess A.P.E. is in business to make money so of course they will be wanting to line their pockets. As for others doing that, I know of some in Melbourne (at least one user of THIS board included) who had their manual CCT adjusters fitted free of charge and possibly at cost for the component (as I did) at a place that I'm sure you all know I'm talking about. And if you think this person is trying to line his pockets...how does $223.00 for an 18,000 km service at a Suzuki dealership (air filter NOT changed and half the panels off already for the CCTA recall) strike you as "lining their pockets", compared with about half that for the same job at "THAT" workshop? And when we're really only talking about a new oil filter, oil and a visual check over the rest of the bike, I don't think I got value for money. But they certainly lined their pockets given they were already being paid (albeit poorly) by Suzuki for some of the labour.
Les, for whatever reason you have this bee in your bonnet about Peter, I suggest you just let it go or at least leave it off any board, as your comments (direct or veiled) are usually ill-founded and inaccurate.
No good can come of it. Let it go.

well gazza that was all very useful information and i'm sure that everyone who reads it will really appreciate it,,
as far as your personal suggestion is concerned, you like ram (and a few others) are very quick to come here and attack, advise and suggest, but i note that your attitude too is totally one sided and you present no balance, so do us all a big favour and just keep your suggestions to yourself,,

Miles, guess you have a point with being over sensitive, but look at it from my (our) point of view miles.
1. You guys go and create your own board, thats fine I have no problem with that, even though you did steal our name and dont bother using the word Suzuki as an argument as we have always been called the Australian Hayabusa Club, if fact I recall having a poll along those lines.
2. You banned a few of us almost immediately from posting on your board, whether we'd choose to post or not is'nt the point either. One member of your board rubbish's us continuously on your board with his humpty dumpties etc. though he's free to say whatever he desires on his board, why should I take any crap from any of you guys on our board, and I remind you...whilst still being able to POST on our board despite us being banned on your board? Phill has'nt contributed anything other than incitefull remarks in his posts on our board, so why should he be tolerated? whilst c43 and gazza have posted posts on topic, even though some of us may not agree with them on some issues, but they are entitled to their opinion and I can respect that and you Miles what have you posted other than wanting to sell a pair of jeans and some remarks to faulty towers which for the life of me I cant see what that has to do with cct's.
On a final point Miles, don't you think you all look rather foolish and rediculous, when you have broken away from this club, you have amongst "your" club members pictures, not just meets from our club (implying your club meets) but me Volvi your so called enemy featured there prominently on your site's club photos?
Maybe I am bit over sensitive but I have put alot of personal effort in bringing about this club and do not wish to see it destroyed by a few malicious people.
