Alarmed!! - Slong - 07-08-2002

Heh.

Who has an alarm? If you don't, why not?
Are they generally any better than car alarms? I don't want one thats going to be having lots of falsies, but I need some peace of mind, since the bike is always in the driveway/sideway.

Discount on insurance almost makes it worth it too. [~$150 for me]

Anything to stay away from? Have read a bit about some with a perimiter sensor, any good?

Any comments on that one.

Re: Alarmed!! - demeester - 07-08-2002

I was offered no discount on my insurance if I had an alarm fitted! So, I figured that's one reason to have insurance, and I just take usual precautions. Use a disclock in situations which are a little dodgier or if leaving the bike longer than a coupla hours.

Re: Alarmed!! - Slong - 07-08-2002

No discount?? Who're U with. In the ad/article in AMT it specificly [sp?] says that theres 5% off from Swann, maybe not the others.

I've got a disclock for my current bike [not yet a busa] and a few times I've forgotten it was on and led to some nasty/embarrasing incidents. Guess if I used it in conjunction with something else visible that'd be ok. I'm only really concerned about parking it at home, maybe I'll drill something into the concrete path. hmmm.

Disclock - demeester - 07-08-2002

My disclock comes in a little soft case. When I put the lock on, I shove the case into one of my gloves. I haven't had an incident yet.

Re: Alarmed!! - Slong - 07-08-2002

hey good, idea. mmm, very good idea. My case is attached to the bike, but I'll find something else to shove in my glove. Big fat tarantula will ensure I don't forget again.
heh

Might crawl out into your helmet. Just what you need at 250 - big hairy spider walking on the inside of your visor

disc loks - rev 01 - 07-08-2002

Disc locks are ok & better than nothing but determined tea leaves will get your bike reardless. All they do is push/drag your bike onto a trailer and off they go.

I keep a Kryptonite cable lock coiled up under the seat hump area & always tether the bike to something solid.
Foolproof ? probably not but it slows em down a bit or makes them look for an easier target.

Like the next bike??

Re: Alarmed!! - Slong - 07-08-2002

hahaha, yeha I once had a huntsman I flicked off handlebars, went near my shoulder and I wasn't sure if it was on me. had to stop and check.

As for tethering, yeah for sure, I think a couple Dynabolts into the footpath sounds like a good idea. : ) Chain bike up to em.

Re: Alarmed!! - AeroCat4 - 07-08-2002

Hey jon

I've got an alarm on my Busa. Made specially for motorbikes. Italian made - bloody good quality! Had them on all my bikes. Bike can be set to touch sensitive with variable volume levels, mercury switches, emergency rolling codes with a thousand million combinations, etc........blah-blah! BLOODY EXCELLENT and have starlted many a probably thief I think?! When you put the key in the ignition you have 5 sec. to dis-arm the LED otherwise it will think you have jammed a screwdriver in the ignition, unlees already disarmed in prior 30 seconds. I'm in melbourne if you want to see it.

Peter ....there is a previous post in this board or Technical board about 2-3 months ago about my alarm if you can go back a few pages.

Re: Alarmed!! - Macca - 07-08-2002

With regard to the disc lock, I have used a long bootlace with a loop at each end , one goes on the disc lock and the other end on the throttle side handle bar. This is a good reminder that the disk lock is on and saves embarrassment/damage to the bike.

Re: Alarmed!! - Slong - 08-08-2002

Hey Aerocat4, whats the name of your alarm? Where can I get one, how much does it cost and lastly can you install it yourself?

I'm in Melbourne, around St Kilda B.Hours and Moonee Ponds A.Hours. Would definitely be interested in checking out alarm some time, assuming that I can afford it.

-jon-

Macka - I've seen variants on that, a springy flouro thing that has a velcro strip that goes around handlebar.

Heh would be cool to have some sort of electric shock system. hehe get me some tazers. ouch.

Home alarm - Anthony - 08-08-2002

Slong with regard to securing your bike at home you can get a version of the kryptonite (spelling?) locks that dynabolts to the concrete I think it sells for around $100 as for the disc lock put a piece of blue tack on it then when ya put it on your disc put the blue tack over your ignition, when ya go to stick your key in you will either realise you have your disc lock on or you will think your gum has fallen outa your mouth

Re: Home alarm - AeroCat4 - 08-08-2002

Yo Jon,

Glad to meet up with you soon. Live and work down south near Tyabb so hard to catch you. I cruise up to Middle Park often, so if you leave a number I can catch you on, or hit the "reply" button under my name and leave it there, I'll give you a ring when I go up that way!

It can be a bit hard to install if haven't done it before, but I can show ya. Its a Laserline system. Cheers, Peter
