Hi All,

I wanto do some tweaks to the Busa. I have a few questions i hope someone has the answers to before i attack it blindly.

Firstly, what is exactly the airbox mod? is it simply removing the flap visible when you take the aircleaner out??.

Secondly, the standard cans have hex headed bolts out back that are tack welded onto the stainless covers. If these are neatly "untacked" and unscrewed can the internals of the cans be pulled out/gutted?

I wanto cut the rear flap shorter, has anyone done this and had trouble with rego?

Is there and easy way to shorten the arms of the rear blinkers?

and last but not least, how easy is it and how much does it cost to remap the onboard computer to exhaust and intake changes. I wanto play with the stock system before i goto a 4>1 system ( and when i can find a set at a reasonable price)

Cheers,

Jessie

G'day Jessie,

The air box modification is simple if you have the right gear. You will need to cut out the flap and surounding area to the edge of where the filter sits. Make sure you radius the edges. If this job is too over the top for you get someone who knows there stuff to do it for you.

After market mufflers will do fine, but do concided a full system. Modifying the stock cans won't achive much.

Setting up your fueling will depend on the time spent getting it right.

I'm in Sydney, put up a post if I can help.

Regards Col

Re: Modifications - Volvi - 15-03-2001

Hiya Col,

Have sold my Akros and have stock cans on. I quite like the 2 cannon look, if I end up keeping my model I would like the cans to 'sound' a bit better than it does. So my question is, can something be done to them to enhance the sound such as drilling some holes at the rear? and would it have any negative effects?

Cheers

Jeeez Volvi !......drill holes in the end of your mufflers to enhance sound? that's the type of mod I would expect to see in Bali or Thailand on the poxy little 2 strokes they ride. Certainly not on a Hayabusa!

By the way how does your bike perform now with the mods you have done to suit the Akro and now have re-fitted the stock exhaust?

Jeff

Re: Modifications - Volvi - 16-03-2001

Jeff,

Needs a bit of re-setting the map I reckon. With the holes drilled, I've heard it has been done, tho maybe in Bali...lol. Worth looking into though, as most change the cans for sound effects alone and why pay a grand for it if and I say if the stocks can be modified somewhat.

Why did you sell the akros?

The mod you are describing is called a bafflectomy (I DO like that name). I had a bit of a look at my stocks with that in mind early on, but the pipes are welded as opposed to rivetted so you can't pull the guts out of them. drilling holes sounds pretty damn extreme.

Re: bloody hell - jessie928 - 16-03-2001

Guys/gals,

FYI, i found some great info on mods for the across @ www.suzukihayabusa.org I will be playing wif my bike this weekend a little. The airbox mod, and possibly gutting the cans. I am wondering if the EMS will have to remapped? h well we shall see. THere is also apparently a resistor to cut that disables the ignition retard in 1st and second gear, and also a resistor that is added for a reason i just forgot but is on the tip of my tounge!!!

anyhow,
Thanks for the input

Re: bloody hell - Volvi - 16-03-2001

Jessie, just dont go cutting anything you dont know about, stick to the Mr Sheen for the weekend and let the experts handle what theyre supposed too. Another great mod page is at Matins;

pub12.ezboard.com/fmartin...kihayabusa

click Mods top left.

Heidi, sold them as I may be updating the bus and you know when you sell a bike with extras you get zilch for them....bafflectomy..lol G1.

bafflectomy - Heidi1 - 16-03-2001

I did an accidental bafflectomy on my first bike, Piglet. Piglet was SO NOISY everyone thought it was a Harley until me and a TINY Z250B came puttling around the corner. Hence the name Piglet, he was only ever half a hog.

Re: bafflectomy - demeester - 16-03-2001

How do you perform an accidental bafflectomy? Back into a drill? Did a unicorn's brakes fail?

Re: bafflectomy - jessie928 - 16-03-2001

Thanks Volvi

Rest assured i wont slice my baby up without knowing what i am sliceing. ALso rest assured that i since i was about 14 i have not let any mechanic, panelbeater or spraypainter come anywhere near anyof my bikes, cars or boats I have yet to meet any of the above that are genuinely interested in customer relations rather than wallet relations ( they are yet to understand that they go hand in hand anyhow). There are alot of different definitions of "egsperts"..hehehehhe.

There are some guys where were very helpful with information specific to the busa and posted private replys. Seems like all internet lists are the same

Cheers,
Jessie

Drilling it - col - 16-03-2001

G'day Volvi,

O'kay, what drill do you intend to use, 1/2, 3/4 or is it bigger?

Sorry, can't see the reason in sticking holes in the stock mufflers. I would think they would be better left standard for resale value.

Regards Col

modied standard mufflers - GSXR1000 - 16-03-2001

There is a guy in Geelong who advertises in AMCN I think re this, apparently does a good job at a resonable price. But what do you do if you get pinged for noise?
Hang em up and put some aftermarkets on and refit when selling or trading. Most dealers arent interested in aftermarket exhausts and would prefer stock cans,(roadworthy hassles)so at least you can re-sell aftermarket ones.
Well thats my opinion anyway.
