Road laws. Who knows current vic ones? - Slong - 16-01-2004

More to the point where the hell can I read them. Vicroads.vic.gov.au has a section but it looks like car stuff.

Pity BlueCenturion isn't around any more...

Wasn't there some talk about lane splitting becoming illegal altogether in Vic?

Actually the stuff at Vicroads covered most stuff.

There was no mention of Lane splitting that I could find though....

Good to hear you'll be back soon Jon, what's the status of your paintwork, mods etc?
It's not so much that lane splitting is illegal, the offence if any will be passing on the left (RR 141(1) $165 & 2 points) or possibly failure to signal before changing direction (RR 48(1) $105 & 2 points)...info was current at 21/12/02.
ie if you indicate and pass on the right of the lane you're in you should be good for it, but who does?D">

I could probably scan you a copy of the infringement notice handbook if you're interested, freakin 34 pages devoted to traffic offences!:">

cheers

Re: Lane Spliting - Scott W - 17-01-2004

You were right the first time Luc, passing on the left is the offence I believe.

Re: Lane Spliting - Slong - 17-01-2004

Thanks for that.

Uh, the paintworks...
Maybe this year. lol
I still have the panels and gear - I'm the guy who likes to learn many things, the consequences being that I never actually get many of them done.

Saved the $$ instead and spent it on other things for the bike. Hey, I still owe you some CDs of stuff, will get something worked out for you.

cheers,

Don't sweat the cd's...if you come across something good pass it on by all means but don't worry about it!
I can hook you up with Ghostrider 2 if you make it to a ride with the usual suspects

Re: Lane Spliting - ressac - 21-01-2004

I read recently the illegalities are:

1. Failing to indicate
2. Overtaking on the left
3. Passing too close to other traffic (not keeping a safe distance)

The fines and points add up to around $500 and 6-9 points.

The solution was to use the emergency shoulder, only one offence and only one or two points and less than $180 fine.

(It's also safer I reckon, except if you pick up a f***'n roofing nail that doesn't pop out til your ripping a 140 km/h corner and your tyre deflates in a poofteenth of a second! )

Re: Lane Spliting - rai1300 - 21-01-2004

I think I prefer to pay the $500!!!

Re: Lane Spliting - demeester - 26-01-2004

Big show - keeping abreast of infringements, are you? What has happened with our friend in Marysville?

Re: Our best mate - bigshowbusa - 28-01-2004

It pays to know the rules of the game

Our best mate has got less than 14 days to issue me then it becomes statute barred...I really don't care either way!
I've spoken to a few guys that know him as a collegue, they reckon he's not a bad bloke, time will tell? Or has it already? D">
