A MELBOURNE woman who left the scene of an accident in which she killed a motorcyclist while driving drunk has received a maximum jail term of six years.
Melanie Louise Edwards, 27, of Mill Park, killed a 41-year-old motorcyclist on October 23 last year on Northern Highway near Wallan in central Victoria.
The court was told the crash occurred while she was driving home from a friend's house after consuming wine and beer.
She pleaded guilty to one count each of culpable driving and exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol.
County Court judge Leo Hart today sentenced Edwards to six years jail with a non-parole period of four years.
"A decision you made while affected by alcohol has changed and ruined your life," he said.
With her mother looking on, Edwards sobbed throughout the sentencing.
