A BIG thank you - Slong - 12-04-2004 Thanks to all at the island on the weekend, especially Wayne, Scott, their respective families and Greg. The support I got from you [all] was great. I would have ridden home though it would not have been the smartest thing [and I'm glad I didn't]. The day at the track itself was awesome, I loved every bit of it, even the accident [although I don't want to do it again]. It might sound strange enough, but it's another experience. The damage etc I treat as something seperate, and that does hurt. I think I've mostly come to terms with it all, we'll see what Ron finds whenever I get it down there. A comment was made about this putting me off the track, but it couldn't be further from the truth. I can't wait to get back on there, it's great to be able to push yourself hard and know that the road is not going to have potholes or dead animals all over it - chasing down other bikes is quite fun too However I don't think I could ride down myself again without knowing for certain that I would be able to bring back the bike in whatever state. I was very fortunate to have had someone willing to give me their spot on the trailer. Thanks Greg for your offer too, I would have taken it if things hadn't worked out otherwise! [thx for the tools too] For everyone that is still in the dark, I lowsided just before lukey heights at god knows what speed. I didn't run out of track I was just over too much. I rolled for what felt like 12 seconds and still have visions of sky, ground, sky, ground, sky, white rocks, my arms, various sound effects and wondering how many bones I'd broken. LOL Physically [and mostly mentally, I'm already crazy] I'm fine - leathers did their job and I walked away with a bruised body, a few scratches and a bit of disappointment. The bike, well, I'll let the pics explain themselves. Overall it doesn't seem to be too bad, mostly cosmetic. There were 15 'incidents' that day, with quite a few worse than my own, including a totalled GSXR something [at the same place]. Anyway, the Mongrel Busa is about to get more bitsa, more mongrel. Again, thanks to those who offered fairings, but I'll use what I've got - I've still got plenty of learning to do What really sucks is the parts which have tabs, plugs or mounts that have broken off - namely the headlight [which otherwise is fine] and the speedoguage. I reckon I'll be able to fix up the speedo just fine, but the headlight I'll need to take to a plastic repair place with a good headlight so they can replicate the mounts. Does anyone happen to have a Busa headlight assembly just sitting around? [unlikely, I know] Well here is what I'll be looking for over the next *months: Both Mirrors Front subframe [holds headlight, speedo and mirrors] Front indicators [or just front right indicator] Lefthand Magneto/crank cover Exhaust cans [Rai, I'll be in contact with U again] Another Doublebubble Any/All Fairings [far down on my list of priorities] If anyone sees any good deals or has anything they'd be willing to sell let me know. I won't be riding on the track with oem plastics again, that's for sure. Does anyone have recommendations for fiberglass stuff? I think redline racing had busa fibreglass at one point. hmm. Before I forget, here is the damage: www.geocities.com/slongab...Result.htm Stay upright, and watch that magneto cover - it grinds off real quick. Thanks again guys, and gals. -jon- Re: A BIG thank you - demeester - 12-04-2004 Ouch ouch ouch!!!! Glad you are OK, but that is one hell of a mess you made Is there anything which you don't need to replace? Hope you're back on the road again, soon. Re: A BIG thank you - bigshowbusa - 12-04-2004 The main thing is you're still in one piece Jon Probably sounds a bit insensitive, but if you're going to bin it at speed, Phillip Island is the safest place to do it... The offer still stands, if you want my spare RHS fairing you can have it free of charge...I can give you a set of stock mirrors too (what were yours doing on the bike you goose! ) I could probably help you out with stock indicators (full mount) if no one else can... Re: A BIG thank you - Scott W - 12-04-2004 I have a stock screen and two stock mufflers. They are yours if they are any good to you...free. As Luc says, the most important thing is that you didn't damage yourself. Pride and the bike will both heal in time. I'm glad to hear that it has not put you off riding on the track. I felt bad because I was the one that put up the post about doing the track day...and you were a first timer and wrecked your bike. I really felt bad for you. By the way Jon, this morning I found a small plastic bracket in the back of my car- undamaged. I have no idea what it is except that it is definately off your Busa. Do you want it? :) - Slong - 12-04-2004 No need to feel bad Scott, I wouldn't have gotten on the track and been able to enjoy it if you hadn't posted! I just could have taken it a bit easier, that's all. No-one elses fault, that's for sure! And Luc, I agree totally about the track being the place to do it. There's no way in hell I would have come off as 'lightly' as I have if it had been anywhere else. It's funny about the mirrors, after talking with U while U were taking them off I considered doing it myself. lol. Oh well. Thanks for the offer on the fairing Luc, still no, but the mirrors would be great. Will get in touch. Scott - I couldn't accept the mufflers, I'd appreciate borrowing them for the time being though [till I get my own set] - is that workable? Hold on to that plastic bracket for me, god knows it's probably something critical. [I've still got a stock screen, thx] Thanks guys, I'm feeling better already. -jon- The crash King - Fast Freddy Gassit - 12-04-2004 Hey Slong, Iy was great to finally meet you...though unfortunate that the day turned peachy shaped for you. I DO know what it feels like.....unfortunately. RE: Parts I have a stock screen, a RHS muffler (I think), 2 X GSXR mirrors which I believe are the same as the busa, and a rear hump and pillion seat. Most probably have more stuff but I am still moving stuff from m&d's into chez gassit. Lukey has my mobile number so give him a hoi to get in contact with me. As for race fairings, Randall @ roadrocket has a FULL CF set. Personally I would rather deck the plastics than CF good luck dude. If you need any help, Lukey, smoking joe and myself can do really good mcgyver impressions from time to time.........just a thought..... Re: The crash King - demeester - 12-04-2004 I think I have a left can. With Freddie's right, that's a pair... Re: A BIG thank you - wayneb60 - 12-04-2004 sorry to see those pics it looks bad but it look like your busa mates down there are there for you. hope its not long before its back on the road or track again gald your didn,t get hurt wayne Re: A BIG thank you - rai1300 - 12-04-2004 Slong, Great news to hear you are OK. The bike looks bad. I have a standard screen you can have for free if you want to get the bike up and runing ASAP and as cheaply as possible. Gees you would be popular with the missus! Re: A BIG thank you - Max - 13-04-2004 Bad news about the bike, great news about you bloke. The bruises will go and with the guys help obviously your bike will recover. I have a complete exhaust system if you want it, came with the bike which had Yoshi 4 into 1. Stockers are your if you want them. I'm going to bid for my smashed Bus at auction. If i get it you'll get some needed parts, I just want the motor and a few bits. Re: A BIG thank you - Scott W - 13-04-2004 Jon, you can borrow the cans for as long as you wish. I'll hang onto that plastic bracket for you. Re: A BIG thank you - RaZ80 - 13-04-2004 ouch !! But as everyone has said, glad you were ok with nothing broken !!! I am sure Ballsy can get that back to 100% & still make a better weapon out of it If I didn't have plans I would have joined the NSW boys out at the Creek.... will have to go next time me thinks !! Re: A BIG thank you - peter altas - 13-04-2004 sorry to hear slong. Here's to a quick recovery and a prompt return to the track. Maybe you'll get those fairings color matched now, eh!
