i jsut saw a tl1000r for sale at action in canberra i always loved the look of the tl's but have no idea what they go like and is $14000 for one that apears in good nic a decent price not sure on how many k's tho

Sounds a bit pricey Dan. I had one prior to the BUS, absolutely loved it. Crap loads of torque, a sound that gives ya a woody, and great looks. On the negatives, handling wasn't that great. I paid $10,000.00 for mine, in 2003, it was a 99 model, with 24,000k's.
My advice, if you can talk the price down to around 10-11k, go for it, you won't be disapointed.

There is an article in this months (issue 172) of motorcycle trader mag. by spannerman, on page 47 re someone wanting to buy a TLR. Worth a read but I reckon they are dreaming too at $14k. There are TLRs in mag too around $11 to 12 ks

I love TLRs, I've always thought they were a red-hot sexy bike. I loved the handling and the 'gruntyness' of them. Bit different to the busa, but heaps of fun. I thought they turned pretty well too.

Im sorry but they handle like crap.Maybe they feel like they steer well compaired to a busa but the big problems are in the shit rotary dampner on the rear.Guys who race them,piss off the rear set up and fit an ohlins coventional set up.Also they are too soft in the front,so a set of heavier springs are needed.They are also a pain in the arse in traffic as they have a pretty tall 1st gear and they tend to hunt a lot in the motor at lowish speeds.So IMHO they are not a very practicle bike at all and as far as torque, a busa would kill one and is much more refined to ride. Phuck its the phantom!

Who the f*** need REFINED all the time!
I love the busa, it is a beautiful machine that will tear your arms off if you ask it, but sometimes you just want to get dirty, ride a first gear too hard, misbehave in traffic, moon the little old ladies in the car next to you at the lights.....

Andycool had one bfore teh Busa and he raves on about it...
I nearly bought one before the Busa. It was great, but nowhere near as comfortable in the city traffic, where I do a lot of riding...

Dan,no i didnt have a bad experience,but i have a mate who has had one for about 3 years and he absolutley hates the handling of it.It has tried to spit him off twice.....big time.
If you dont believe me about the handling,get on a tlr site and read for yourself.He has been trying to sell his now for about 6 months,but with little luck,it seems everybody else knows of there evil handling too.Why do you think suzuki has gone back to the conventional rear shock on the sv 1000?

Dan, don't let them put you off mate. As long as you keep in mind the shortcomings, few as they are, you will absolutely love the thrill of the TL1000R. Just make sure that you don't pay too much. Check out the going price on www.bikesales.com.au or the trading post on line before you start to negotiate.

I'll add my voice to Rods , similar story , mate had one , sounded looked and went great but that rear shock setup stuffed an otherwise great bike.
