Whats Street legal in Australia - MPowergermany - 31-12-2006

Hi,I´m new here and I´m from Germany, the country in which nearly everything that makes fun on a bike is not allowed.

How is it in Australia? Are you allowed to build everything into your bike you want or do you have also guidelines?

Are slick tires on a street legal car or bike allowed?
Are NOS systems in cars or bikes allowed?
Do you have a noise limit for the exhaust?
Do you have an emission limit or are you allowed to have as much emissions as you want( an emission law often handicaps high horse power)

I hope you can help,

best regards,Marco from Munich,Germany

Re: Whats Street legal in Australia - Volvi - 01-01-2007

and you got it good with your Autobahn, wish we were that enlightened.

One good thing here we dont have to have our vehicles tested every year for registration renewal (Stae of Victoria at least I dont know about others). Registered once in your name and no checks for the rest of its lifetime until you sell to another and register in theyre name then we have a road worthy test. So I guess you can pretty much do anything to the bike and if well disguised whos going to know.

Re: Whats Street legal in Australia - highwaybruiser - 01-01-2007

Annual roadworthy inspection in NSW after vehicle is 3yrs old. Commercial vehicles (vans/ utes/ light trucks) don't get the 3yr exemption.

Not only that, but as of today (1/1/07) there is now a speed limit on the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory.
BOO, HISS!! Wazza.

I've stared death in the face....he turned and walked away.

Re: Whats Street legal in Australia - BUSGO - 01-01-2007

I agree with you there hwybruiser Boo Hiss.
Not that I've ever been there to use it but it was in my future plans.

In Australia most of us enjoy the ability to ride ALL YEAR ROUND with not many weather related road closures.

Rgds BUSGO

"TAKE MY ADVICE"
I'm not using it anyway!

Re: Whats Street legal in Australia - MPowergermany - 01-01-2007

@Volvi

Yes,the Autobahn is pretty cool, but it also has speed limits.Only a few Autobahn´s (correct plural Autobahnen) have no speed limit, but thats enough(but you can also ride fast on a speed limit autobahn-you only need luck )
We have some politicians who want a complete speed limit on all Autobahn´s of 74 mph (129 km/h) to protect the environment.

One thing is extrem cool in Australia-you don´t have snow, right(in most of australia)?I hope I can explain that with my english. In the winter in germany it´s cold and water gets into little holes in the road. It´s getting cold and the water freezes and busts the road and the road cracks open. They fill these holes with "bitumen binder" to repair the road. And riding trough these bitumen is just like riding on ice, pretty dangerous! These bitumen stripes are not all over the road, they are just little stripes which come at a few miles. So we can live with that, but it would be better if we wouldn´t have bitumen.

@RaZ80: that would be cool, perhaps I´m coming to australia next summer.Do you have curvy roads or can you only ride straight ahead?

best regards,Marco

Re: Whats Street legal in Australia - RaZ80 - 01-01-2007

Marco - hahahaha mate - we have both!!

This is a pic of a very, very small section of my local mountain roads -

However there are WAY too many roads to even mention for that

I think I know the road stuff they use to fix the cracks - they do the same in Canada (Spent a few years there) & I wouldn't wanna be riding on it - however here on some roads in Aus they do patch up work as well - tho I have never had it slip unless they used too much & the heat has melted it. Re: Whats Street legal in Australia - MPowergermany - 02-01-2007

In which territory you made that picture? In the near of Melbourne? The road looks nice

And antoher thing about the filled-roads: It´s not that bad than I told you last post, its easy to live with that, you have to look on the road and there won´t be any problems. Most of the bike crashes happen because of the car drivers.

Which is the best territory to ride or are they all good?

The more i read, the more I like australia.I should come to australia

best regards,Marco

Re: Whats Street legal in Australia - RaZ80 - 02-01-2007

thats a state called Victoria - the eastern side a little there.

I think you would find good roads to ride in all states... however I guess the top 3 might be Queensland, New South Wales & Victoria....

However all the states have their own style of country to ride through & each state has its own thing to offer for riders as well "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"

Re: Whats Street legal in Australia - Volvi - 02-01-2007

Victoria and Tasmania best roads I reckon, also the weathers cooler.

The Great Ocean Road, to bad they allow cars on it.

Watch out for these critters sitting on the side of the road waving you by

Still on the Great Ocean Road on way to Apostles.

Check out the local talent in Ye Old Mining Town Sovereign Hill

If the local talent dont put out ya can always pan for gold

Sovereign Hill still as it was 100 years ago or more

Australia the place to be in!
