fire smoke haze over melbourne this morning - Volvi - 13-12-2006
melbournes hazed over with bad fire smoke smell, reminds me of ash wednesday and a hot one expected today. with climate changes this can only get worse in the future. my empathy to those out in the bush fighting this blaze, I hear firefighters from USA on standby to come over. drought and bush fires gonna change the way oz looks. and Im afraid to say this may just be the beginning.

To true Volvi you just have to look at scamanda down in tassie would have to be one of the best places in tassie they all thought the fire danger was over and then 20 + houses gone just like that THE WARRIOR

Small businesses in Australia have had the initative to diversify and some people have done very well out of it.
Australia is a dry country and we have never had great amounts of water yet one of our biggest industries has been centred around farming our land and selling the result as exports.
We dont have the ability to support this forever so unless we as a country start to diversify into other types of products we will struggle in the future.
No disrespect to farmers, but I think farmed produce really has a limited life here.

I bet the air is so dry these days that when you take a morning piss out of your window, it doesn't even hit the ground.
And when it's raining, it's diluted enough not to be able to taste the difference.

its got me beet why we dont have controled burnings through winter greenies say the poor little tree and animals should not have to put up with controled burning every year but some of no all of the animals are smarter than most of the greens and when they now it burning its time to get and return safe in a few days but when these large fires rip through nouthing has a chance so what is best burn the low scrub every year or just let it take out everything like now

Well said Rod, although I am a professional urban Firefighter, I Have attended many bush fires over the years.
Have not seen a dead native animal yet!(some sheep and cows on farms) They instinctively know when to go. More backburnig at approapriate times of the year IS what is required but hte EPA and the Greenies restrict operations. Willing manpower to do the thankless job of hazard reduction is also a concern.
Anyway thats my 5 cents worth.

Last big bushfire near my place killed 65 koalas.
They didn't get the message it appears.
I am in favour of hazard control.
I am not in favour of f%ckwits who throw cigarette butts out of cars. The next one I see I will dob in.

Did I run into you at Paddys River Falls two years ago? If it wasn't you there was a very funny moment where I rode my 02 black/silver down a particularly isolated piece of road in a very isolated part of the country, came around the corner and found another black/silver. There was a moment where he and I both thought we were seeing things.
