Merry Christmas everyone.... best and worst part of 2006 ?? - AstroBusa - 07-12-2006

Well, here we are again. Another Christmas / New Year approaches at the speed of sound.

Someone had to be the first to say it.... so Merry Christmas everyone and may 2007 be a fantastic year for us all.

Being the end of the year, I'm sure we all do a little soul searching and review the year that was. The highlights and the low moments of our riding year.

For me, the highlight of my riding year was finally planting my butt on another busa ! The wait seemed to go on forever and the sense of elation when Astrobusa MkII was finally mine is something I will never forget. The smile has never left my face and the obsession has returned. One very happy busa rider. Theres been too many fantastic rides since then to single one out - but once again, I want to thank M8EE and RuffRed for all the assists they gave me in getting hold of the bike.

Now for the low moment of my riding year... which was the tragic loss of Dirtbags. I never met the guy, but the outpouring of love, platitudes, shock and grief swept me up and made the loss very real for me. As I've said before, it was this tragedy that sealed my decision to not delay getting the next busa... coz we never know how long we've got. Thanks DB Wish I'd had the chance to meet you.

Finally, before I finish let me just say... please please please people, take care out there over the holiday season. Ride safe, ride wise and watch out for the loonies.

I don't want anyone in my busa family becoming a statistic.

So... what were your riding highlights and low moments of 2006 ?? Care to share ?

Ok... and just to lighten up the mood a little after that sombre outpouring....

Merry Christmas one and all ! The older I get, the better I was. Regards.... Rob

My low was loosing my mate DAVE to a moment of madness. Highlight finding this club.

Re: Merry Christmas everyone.... best and worst part of 2006 - AstroBusa - 07-12-2006

Oh.... and what would Dirtbags be doing for Christmas ??

Rods got hold of Santa's sleigh
He's tossed the running gear away
Ripped out the velvet, ditched the reins
"I'm making changes !", he explains

Tells the Reindeer "Go out and play !"
"Coz a busa motor's on the way !"
"I won't be needing you this year."
"Go tell the elves - bring Jimmi", "Clear ?"

Feel free to add your verse....
The older I get, the better I was. Regards.... RobEdited by: AstroBusa at: 8/12/06 18:01

Merry Christmas All.

very well put Astro.

My lows of the year would be losing my compitition horse in march (just when she was ready to go and kick some arse) and waiting for this dam fuel bike to get through customs.

My high of the year would be when Len won the 1st Sport Compact Group meeting for Bikes on "Quick Silver", at this meet he set the MPH and ET records and also did the best 60', so I in turn took home a shitload of betting money.

If you are riding on the roads this holiday season please be safe.

Cheers Dee

Good idea ASTRO.
Great talent you have.

My low was finding that my daughter's fiance stole all her money and worldy possessions to finance his gambling, drinking and drug habits.
We are now finally rid of the arsehole.

My high was rediscovering romance with my wife of 25 years.

This Christmas should be a good one for the Busgo clan.

Re: Merry Christmas everyone.... best and worst part of 2006 - demeester - 08-12-2006

This is depressing, as I struggle to find a real high... It wasn't an awful year overall, despite a couple of prominent lows, but no real highs. Next Monday may bring a real high or real low... Let you know then...

In the meantime, lows include going back to a working life after bumming for a year, and DB.

Re: Merry Christmas everyone.... best and worst part of 2006 - rocket rod 7777 - 08-12-2006

Yeah pretty ordinary year for me too(had better).
High.......mmmmmm probably my trip to Cairns on the transalp, its what motorcycling is all about.
Lows.......the passing of Dirtbags was something that stuck in my mind and on a more personal level, probably dumping my bike outside Roys last wednesday night would have to be up there. (still licking my wounds).
I would like to personally thank all the guys (and girl) involved helping me get my bike off the road and back to a safe place.
Even though we have a bit of a shit stir amongst ourselves, its good to see the commradery shown when the chips are down.
Thanks again guys.

Re: Merry Christmas everyone.... best and worst part of 2006 - Pink Angel - 08-12-2006

I have had so many highs this year that it is hard to find one in particular. I suppose buying my new baby is one of them.

Lows, well I dont take much notice of them. I look at them as events to remind me how lucky I am with all my highs.

I am surrounded by great friends and family, (who are all in good health), I have a roof over my head, always plenty of grog in the fridge and I am healthy. How could I not be happy. Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul.

Re: Merry Christmas everyone.... best and worst part of 2006 - m8ee - 08-12-2006

Nothing bad happened to me at all this year. Although I did get a paper cut in August, but I am OK now.

When I found out Angela was pregnant, that was a high because I must have had sex at least once this year Chopper says "Harden the f*** up Australia"

Re: Merry Christmas everyone.... best and worst part of 2006 - Sentinel - 08-12-2006

m8ee,

you assuming its yours?

Nah, seriously....It's been great having been a E-member (virtual) of this club. You gals & guys are really great!

Being with DB in his last moments was hard, for a lot of reasons, so I want each of you to promise to stay safe so one day I can get to meet you all!

And you can show me how to ride a real bike...

"Don't ride behind me, I just ate beans. Don't ride in front of me because your ass is huge. Just ride beside me so I can push you into on coming traffic."

Re: Merry Christmas everyone.... best and worst part of 2006 - BEAR - 08-12-2006

Great Thread.
My lowlights were hearing about OhZone's prang and injuries. Mainly because I know him through a couple of rides, local boy etc. Obviously Dirtbags demise is really sad too. I must admit, every time I hear of a rider dying, regardless of the type of bike I cringe. Most are so un-necessary I'm sure, (not saying who's to blame). There was another one in Perth last night. The intersection has lights so.....
Highlight was finally getting a chance after nearly 40 years of riding, to get onto a track. Just being able to wring it's neck in relative safety at the drags and at Wanaroo has been fantastic. Stuff like wheelies over skyline (which I've seen on TV many times) is a hoot. Never thought I'd be one doing it. Now I have spare wheels, slicks and another drag racing tyre!.Drag racing, like most started as an effort to get under 11sec. Now it's getting under 10sec!
Stopped short of a transporter and spare bike, but who knows....
Oh and meeting a lot of great guys through the Busa. What a refined, generous, polite, conservative, modest, nice, well dressed, non swearing, religious, humourous, patriotic bunch of bastards! Haven't met any women on Busa's over here yet, but I'm sure they rate high!
Have a great Xmas and New Year and keep the shiny side up! Oh and keep your cheeks apart....smile!
