Who can set up a nitrous bike in Sydney? - pan - 16-09-2005 All this talk about, "the busa has more power than you can use", is getting old. It may have more power than I can use at full throttle for 10 seconds straight, but (especially at the drags) I've found myself turning the throttle as far as it'll go and wanting more... Turbo seems great and big bore too, but I figure nitro is the go for me. I'd only use the 200+HP for a few seconds at a time, whether it was turbo, 1600cc or whatever, so I'm swayed by the price... Any ideas about where in Sydney I can ask around? Is it true of all nitrous systems that you have to have the throttle open all the way before you can hit the nitrous? If you are handy you could buy a kit from your local Nitrous Express stockist, fit it yourself and have those guys tune it for you! You could try contacting Hawkwind from the Board as he had a fairly advanced kit with controllers for sale a little while a go. Unfortunately I am not in a position to do anything about it at the moment so you might as well if you are ready! Activation of Nitrous at full throttle is probably the safest but not strictly required. In saying that you certainly can not hit it just off idle. Kaboom Activation by WOT sensors is probably a better way to go then by using the button technique. Shayne Crazy Pan! - Blackkat - 17-09-2005 You sound like you may have lost your mind Pan? I think you'd better take my bike for a bit of a spin and see if this is exactly what you are looking for - remember you have a wife and child(s) that need you in working order.... Col would be my recomendation for a Nos install .A push button and wide open throttle switch is the safest way I believe you can activate it. Leonard. Re: Crazy Pan! - pan - 18-09-2005 I'm not doing anything drastic Leonard, though my mates said exactly what you said when I first bought a Busa! I'm (mostly) a slow rider, but feel that having the option of jumping to 200+hp at the press of a button for the drags or a dash from 200km/h to 300km/h on a safe and straight road once each year is worth about $1000... (though probably cost much more...) Thanks for that Leonard. I will talk to Col. He recently tuned and dyno'ed the bike and he certainly seems to know his stuff. Use a harlan, very cheap and reliable, no pills. And a fuel pressure switch (if wet) although if you only want 200 hp, go dry. Re: 100 % - Tony Nitrous - 19-09-2005 I used NOS on my Bandit 12 for similar reasons. A bit a "shunt" at the drags and a quick fix on the street. I know B12's are a bit basic but even so it was so easy. I put the standard Jelly filled battery lay down in the tail unit. I extended the battery leads using the wide range of car starter motor leads from the local auto-shop. Bought a basic 60bhp NOS system with the bigger 2.5lb bottle, Bottle went on the rear footpeg hanger, (where I could reach the tap) Fuel pump, and both solenoids went in and under the now empty battery box. Put the micro-switch supplied onto the carbs to be triggered at full throttle (just my choice) Put a flick switch on the handlebars that switched the horn between "UP=NOS" and "DOWN=HORN". Cut wooden inserts to put into the 4 inlet rubbers (to support them) before cutting undersize holes then theaded the fogger nozzels in, (not ideal, but it worked) Connect up all the colour coded red / blue nozels and pipes, Up and down the road with the bottle turned off and hit the NOS button...Motor SHOULD choke because its getting fuel but no NOS.(this is my "safety test") Get bottle filled. Buy cheap flat digital kitchen scales i can take them to the drag. By weighing empty bottle you can easy work out the weight of NOS in your part-full bottle. Up the road again, Normal 1st gear, Normal 2nd gear, Hook 3rd and push horn button..WHOOOSSHHHHH! PULL's BLOODY HARD, Hook 4th and push horn button.. SAME AGAIN !!!! Shut off, up into 5th, back off home to phone my mates, like a gibbering idiot. I LOVE IT !!! Tony. Edited by: Tony Nitrous at: 19/9/05 3:44 pm Re: 100 % - Maj750t - 19-09-2005 I prefer the pass switch to the horn switch , its accessable as a red wire ~30mm from the switch block, just before it joins the headlight wire i found when i used the horn switch you have to move your hand a bit to get your thumb on the switch which doesn't help your grip when you need it most. Pass switch is only the movement of 1 finger. Re: 100 % - hayabusa - 19-09-2005 While they are good ideas I believe the best approach is a full throttle switch and window switch, that way you can just concentrate on riding the damn thing!! Re: 100 % - Tony Nitrous - 20-09-2005 Not quite sure what you mean by "window" switch ? Horn button and throttle switch together suited me fine, Normal hard launch off the line in 1st, into 2nd, then just keep your thumb on the horn button through 3rd and 4th. Its all good fun :-) Tony. Window Switch - aBUSa - 20-09-2005 I agree with Hayabusa, Throttle Sensor and Window Switch, for the reasons he mentioned. If I had to activate by button I would definately use the pass switch though. Tony, a Window Switch allows you a start and end RPM for activation, say from 7000 RPM and 10500 RPM, important in a dry situation where the fueling is adjusted at the PC maybe 500 RPM either side to prevent a lean situation. Shayne Re: Window Switch - CAS3234 - 20-09-2005 Pan.... WTF!!!! Mate I wouldn't be too worried about trying to go quicker at the strip untill you reach the limit of your bike as is. I hope I dont sound like I'm haveing a go at you, but once you get the hang of launching and your 60 foot time is in the 1.6's or lower you will be running very low 10's and high 9's. There are a lot of little things you can do to get just a little more out of your bike, such as the Air Box, Pair valve, Brocks/Yoshi/Hindle/etc exhaust systems, power commander, air shifter, lower it, lengthen it, sprocket sizes, the list goes on. But Exspiecialy remember your Militec the shit works!! And when you are not happy with that wack a dry system on, they come packaged complete with instructions, and every fitting and screw you will need. The guys in the US are getting mid 8's on these systems. It took me 4 weeks of raceing every week with 15 passes a meet till I was running 10.5's, then 2 months to get under 10.5. I did nothing to my bike over this period, it was standard length, with the Yoshi pipe, I didn't even have an after market EMS just the standard computer with a good dyno mapping. It is all practice mate, don't get sucked into the H/P hype, it still takes a good rider to ride the bike. I won't be racing on Wednesday night, so I will give you a hand with your launches, we will have you in the mid 10's in no time. Dave. No fast Nos Bikes - Blackkat - 20-09-2005 Poor Pan, Best you go about it in secret and surprise us, eh. Dave I don't think Pan had the drags in mind. Has anyone actually got a quick Nos bike out there (quick not fast Hawkwind ) or is it just used for laughs (pardon the pun).?. Love to see a quick nos bike get to the drags. Had a mate with a 12r with nos running low 9's ,but unfortunately he had to sell up . Leonard Nos Bike - pan - 20-09-2005 Thanks Dave. Very true what you say. I will continue to practice, but not tomorrow as the bike is getting ornamental touch up work at Mototech. NOS is an option I have been thinking about before I was ever at the drags. I like the idea of being on a back road in 4th gear and opening up with a little "extra" sauce... Drags is what I'm hooked on at the moment though. Spewin' I won't be there tomorrow. I was tempted to bring the Volvo, but as it turns out I'll be working... Leonard, I don't mind all the opinions and thoughts coming through. I asked for them, so I'm glad I got responses. I do have a lot of thinking to do, but first I will speak with Col... At the creek Wednesdays were are lucky to get 4-5 a meet. I will try and get there tomorrow and would love to get some launching advice if you are in a sharing mood. My best after 11 individual runs is 10.8 with 60's around 2.0 Bruce Bruce |
