Re: ... - glen66 - 13-08-2006

I reckon he's gone to bed TD. Both sides will have to be cut. Here is how it's done.

1. fairing off. put a piece of chalk in the hole the bolt come from. temporarily replace fairing and the mark will show where it touched. this is your centre line. Stop. Think. Mark it better.

2. lay down a non scratch blanket on the flat bench. When you go in, the fairing will try and spin. make sure it isn't the boss's fav. You will cut a hole in it eventually. Stop. Think.

3. Mask it up really well on the paint side. stops the paint from burning or flaking. Stop. Think.

4. drill a small pilot. Stop. Think.

5. the big one. From the inside of course. A run away hole saw on the outside would be less than cool. It has to be slightly oversize. the fairing is not flat and it won't fit back on neatly. You don't want to do this twice. Stop. Think.

6. let the drill do it's work. sure and steady. once you have it out. Don't pull at the paint strands. cut them neatly with a blade. should look as good as gold.

7. done. That's one side. Time for the other. Enjoy. it's customising.

Hope it helps. Maybe other guys have a different technique they wish to share.

Regards.

Just checking. I only need to cut the left fairing?

And is a hole saw the way to go?

Re: frame slider installation - Maj750t - 17-08-2006

Shredder posted once about using a laser pointer , aim the pointer (on the unfairing'd bike ) at the point you want , refit the fairings and you have your centre .

Re: frame slider installation - PING THROWDOWN - pan - 30-08-2006

Hi TD. Any chance you can let me know when/where you're installing them? I plan on doing the same in a few months and would like to learn (from your mistakes... ) how it's done properly...

Re: frame slider installation - Maggot1300 - 06-10-2006

Simmo you can still get those little mushroom looking things that attach to the fairing bolts. I was looking at a pair last week, but I cant remember which shop it was.

I'll try and find out where it was that had them but from all acounts they don't do much if the bike goes down
