PC problems - Big Steve - 14-12-2006

This one has me stumped guy's, my PC's internet speed has become painfully slow recently but the wifes laptop runs from a wireless router from the same external ADSL modem I use and it's fine ' did the usual checks (firewall, virus protection etc and isolated just my PC, any ideas, network card?/driver I'm normally able to bluff my way through but this is really pissing me off
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Steve

Re: PC problems - rev 01 - 14-12-2006

Sudden slow speed usually = Trojan

What virus protection ? down load freebie or Norton etc ? is it up to date ?

Check your task manager for stealth processes

All OK ?

Run your defrag, disc cleanup, delete cookies & history.

exactly what Rev said.

Avg is one free antivirus proggy.
Run Adaware and spybot search and destroy too. Cheers,
Pete

Also check to see if you've suddenly blocked any vents (causing over heating). Mine slowed down suddenly and my IT guy told me to check vents. I had a stack of papers blocking one and it fixed the problem.

Are you on a plan that "shapes" your speed down instead of charging for over usage ?
