Shop jobby - dont have all the right tools for the job - plus - better to replce with roller bearings anyway ;)

If they are loose you will feel it with your left fingertips , put them sort of half on the frame and half on the collar that goes on top of the bearings, then grab the front brake with your right hand and rock the bike forward , you will feel what you cant see

if you think they are grooved you need to raise the front off the ground and slowly turn the bars and feel for tight /loose /tight sort of thing
