Brrrr. Cold start issue - gringo - 17-07-2014
I hadn't ridden for a 5 or 6 days and this morning early I started up and it ran for a couple of seconds then conked. Restart, conked out, finally on the third go it picked up reves and began to warm up. I thought these GenII smart bikes were supposed to always get it right, am I missing something? Is their an air temperature sensor I might have bumped the wire off on the airbox?
I run 98 and it always purrs like a kitten, 20,000k and 2 week old top of the range irridium plugs.

mine bike was doing that ,until the other week while going for a ride the bike just cut out ,would not start ,pulled tank off ,removed the fuel pump only to find the filter was full of fine muck ,looked like a used tea bag ,so maybe you may have the same problem....

Nah, they do that when they haven't been ridden for a few days. They just need a daily thrashing.

Both the Redneck chariot and the BB Busa dont start 1st go, But then im at work for 8days so they just sit around waiting for me to get home.
My BB Busa has not started straight up since it got past 2000ks. Every time I go out even if I rode it the day before she fires and dies then ifn im lucky she will fire and stay running second time round. I was putting it down to now needing 6000k service.

Ahhh, so it's all normal. Good good. Thanks boys, nothing worse than worrying about nothing. I'll start if every couple of days if I'm not riding it, that's good for them anyway. I usually ride it every couple of days but have been distracted building a weekender up the brisbane valley near esk and although I'd love to be taking the bike up there it won't carry the chainsaw or the concrete blocks etc.

Hm.. there is something wrong with my busa it seems. After almost 4 months sitting iddle in a garage the battery got completely flat. There was some electricity left in the old one from gixxer so I put it in. Couple of cranks and it is purring first go no problem. It is a bit rough and spattery as always but keeps going.
I do not believe that, if the modern EFI engine does not start first go, it is normal. It is not, something is wrong and need fixing. Same with my diesel Landrover - three months seating on a driveway (as I was disqualified from driving) and starts first go. Each time, every time.

Hmmm What part of the country are you in shifu? What was the air temperature in your garage? It might make a significant difference. Out under the back landing where my bike is in brisbane it was about 9 degrees. I agree modern engines "shouldn't do it" but that doesn't mean the busa doesn't have a design issue where it does.

I am in Adelaide and last night we had 5 deg which is about average for this time of the year. The garage has reverse cycle airconditioning but I do not use it so I guess it will be similar temperature inside as it is outside. However the thing I always do is keeping the tank full so there is minimum water condensation in it. Adding a bit of fuel stabiliser can probably help as well. I think we can all agree that busa's engine is one of the better ones, but keeping it properly tuned/adjusted often can take some effort.

I was reading the manual last night and in the section about sensors it said that if one is dodgy the computer reverts to a generic set of parameters that assure starting under general conditions.
I think I will pop down to the shop and have a chat with the mechanic. Wouldn't hurt to have the throttle bodies professionally balanced. I can't justify buying the proper computer interface and quite frankly I don't need the learning curve right now. When they have the bike hooked up their computer should show if anything is amiss.

My Busa has sat for 2 months in a garage,1 month outside in 45 deg and 1 deg ranges of temp, no starting issues, gets flogged every ride though,34 k kms on the clock use 95 octane usually

Head mechanic recons I should add some injector cleaner and take it for a thrash up country. Off now, will report back tomorrow after trying to start it cold.
Talked myself into buying a new helmet so if the injector clean doesn't work it wouldn't have been a wasted trip you know.

A Shark Vision R ?
I bought one the other week , there's a little wind noise (particularly if you turn your head) but not too bad.
Wish I hadn't gone for the mat black one , have already scratched the paint.
Was going to buy a Reeview but it didn't fit me properly.
