world tour on a Busa - storm - 20-04-2014
Anybody ridden a Busa around the world? Europe and Americas?
I am thinking to ride the Busa around oz again and ship it to Europe and onto America as an excuse to promotion of my business.
the plan is to just ride shipping the bike as luggage on the plane unless there is a quicker easier way.
I don't usually plan extensively just flow with the go.
I am assuming as I will ride foarmed and populated areas not to carry anything much.
riding gear, some clothes a sleeping system and a stove and some food.
a GPS and that's it.
any experiences, ideas, and tips please share.

I'd be interested in what it would cost you to take a bike on a plane as luggage. I assumed it would be waaaaay too expensive. I have a "plan/wish/dream" to pick up a bike in Germany and ride to IOM in 2016 - but I was thinking hire/lease/buy - sell after.

Qantas was about $7 / kg but no port fees etc. So for say $2.5 k return + ticket for self there are also other carrier options. Get crate from m/c shop its flat shipping.
You know your bike + it's set up how you want.and no waiting for 6 to 8 weeks for bike to turn up.
I want to just ride so am not hanging in one place. Compared to oz Europe is small I suppose

mmmmmmmmm maybe my math is wrong but shouldn't it be about 240 kg for bike plus some attachments? So that's closer to 3300-3400 return for bike only.

There are many carriers. Guys on the Horizons forums have shipped from oz to south Africa etc bikes like gs1200s etc for a good price. Though this is a bit expensiftve it saves all the hassles and has a better connection with people than a hire bike.
a bike is more than a wife, it's a relationships.
wound you leave u r wife at home and hire one overseas? Some would but I prefer taking my own bike along. It's a commitment and a valuable relationship I have with my bike. I have ridden nearly a lap of oz since I bought it new and have had a great time and would like to extend the experience.

hey storm... I understand exactly where you are going.. if I could I would love to boat my busa to Vietnam and then ride to Europe... it's doable on a bike but not sure if busa would be the best one LOL
was just pointing out your calculation might have left you disappointed with actually price. Expect $4000 min for return cartage fees via Quantas, $2500-3000 via freight company.

I'd probably hire one here first just to see how it went.

Thanks captain Rob, some gr8 tips in your posts.I am a great believer in insurance so will get the lot and the security net, where can I find one? At this point in time I want to ride good rroads and place that have street racing shenanigans. I have family in Europe and US.
Japan is very appealing to me culturally, let's see how it all transpires.
as far as longest around goes it's not my style.
I have ridden driven 100,000 kns+ in this Australian deserts mos,tly solo with no GPS, no Sat phone or epirb and no support.-I will find my way out.
anyway more ideas suggestions, tips welcome.
ps what is a good GPS brand that can blue tooth to a good helmet? Thanks

Japan is a must do. I ride from one end to the other in a month along the remote north side. Great ride nice people. Small towns and totally different to rest of japan. A must do, for sure.
I put everything in my helmet via Autocomm: gps, phone, radar, iPod, UHF - but that's on a FJR!
The mesh bags are at Anaconda I think : www.pacsafe.com has the info, great product for everyone.
The big names are always best. Check out Garmin. They have units that receive both GPS and Glonass (the Russian equivalent to GPS) so you get better coverage. GPS is the US system and is now down to the last satellite; all the spare ones have been used up. So when the next one fails the performance will drop?
