2010 gearbox issue - tickedo - 25-09-2013 Hi all, I've been reading up on all the threads regarding gearbox issues as mines started to play up. I'm getting false neutrals, and sometimes when going down the gears coming up to a red light the "throw" of the gear lever feels very long and then the gps goes blank? The gearbox has become very clunky. The bike has only 13,000klm and I bought it with about 2,500klm. Serviced twice by Llyod Penn in Sydney. I haven't had the 5-6th issue that seems to be an issue with others, mines more in the lower gears? Could a clutch issue be causing this? Thanks Tickedo RE: 2010 gearbox issue - Shifu - 26-09-2013 (25-09-2013, 07:10pm)tickedo Wrote: Hi all, I've been reading up on all the threads regarding gearbox issues as mines started to play up. You have to be firm with your foot when changing the gears as that puts them in fast and secure. By being too gentle you can have missed gears, false neutrals etc. It is very uncommon to have gearbox problems on such a new bike. RE: 2010 gearbox issue - Camel - 26-09-2013 Yeah, be firm with the bitch. RE: 2010 gearbox issue - Aussie Steve - 26-09-2013 Maybe due for an oil change. My 2010's similar and it gets better once the oil is changed....I might add that my 06 became smoother once the ks got higher but then I crashed that one just as it was getting sweet. RE: 2010 gearbox issue - Dale - 26-09-2013 Thankyou gentlemen .. ![]() I am having the same issue .. and I am being soft on it. No more mr nice guy ... ![]() ![]() RE: 2010 gearbox issue - tickedo - 26-09-2013 Ok, I won't be "nice" to it :). It's just had a service so new oil is in. Will taking the clutch out let me see the selectors or are they on they other side? It's just that I feel there's an issue as I'm sure it's not be pussying it............ RE: 2010 gearbox issue - Dan85 - 26-09-2013 Check to make sure your shifter is adjusted for you might help aswell RE: 2010 gearbox issue - Maj - 27-09-2013 yep shifter adjustment is first check if you have to move your foot too far upward to shift esp if you sit forward for aggressive acceleration your probably going to induce those symptoms up movement is the weaker of the two my LSR bikes are all "race shift" or reverse pattern , as its easier to select gears and unsettles the bike less as you shift RE: 2010 gearbox issue - tickedo - 27-09-2013 Ive lowered it abit but I might go a bit more. RE: 2010 gearbox issue - cyndemgum - 29-09-2013 I think you will find the gear changes will feel a lot better after you put a heap more Ks on the bike. Have a blast, Paul. Sorry Aussie Steve, just read your post. RE: 2010 gearbox issue - Camel - 29-09-2013 Go for the simple fixes first. Like linkage adjustment. Each one of the three Gen II shifter forks has a barrel shaped stud that engages with its own track on the gear shifter drum. The barrel shape is supposed to make shifting smoother, however I've found that over time, or prolonged harsh shifting, the high points on the barrel wear flat and the tracks are likewise worn. This can create shifting problems but are most likely to lead to a bent shift fork. I replace them with Gen I shift forks, the stud is basically your traditional top hat design. RE: 2010 gearbox issue - tickedo - 29-09-2013 Thanks for the advice, I let you know how I go RE: 2010 gearbox issue - bazman - 30-09-2013 Heya tick... just curious what engine oil you are using!?! If its a cheap(er) brand, lash out on something a bit dearer. I would recommend Motul 5100....you'll probably feel & notice the difference immediately!! RE: 2010 gearbox issue - Aussie Steve - 30-09-2013 I just changed to Fuchs Silkoline synthetic...no better or worse than the others IMO and about mid priced fun to ask for too! esp if its a female serving..... RE: 2010 gearbox issue - tickedo - 02-10-2013 I've been riding it harder (gear changes) than I normally would. It is better!!!! I still can't believe it is the way im riding thats causing this? I've been riding for over 40yrs maybe I've just gotten lazy.... |
